Babysitting Training (10 – 14 yrs) A course for responsible youth at least 10 years of age who want to become a babysitter or may already be one. The babysitter course covers the responsibilities of a babysitter, safety tips for children of all ages, first aid, mealtimes, stages of play and development, diapering babies, basic childcare skills, and what to do in case of an emergency. Each student will receive a Child Safe Canada Babysitter Handbook and completion card.

Home Alone Training (10 – 13 yrs) The Home Alone Safety Program provides children with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when home alone for short periods of time. It will help them understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied. Child Safe Canada trained instructor.

Poirier Pink Shirt Day Event (11 – 14 yrs) Celebrate Pink Shirt Day at the Getaway Youth Centre. Youth will collaborate with our youth centre staff on anti-bullying tactics and identify resources available to help combat bullying. Snacks will be provided.

Youth Leadership Development (13 – 14 yrs) This program will introduce leadership skills over the span of 8 weeks. The program includes a combination of theory and a practical component which consists of volunteering in city programs. By the end of the program, participants will have acquired skills in conflict resolution, relationship building, communication techniques and gain confidence.
