QuickStart Tennis QuickStart Tennis offers kids a chance to learn tennis while having fun. This new, better approach to introducing kids to the game uses tennis balls that are bigger and lower in compression, and smaller nets are used, which allow for instant success. Unsure about class levels, visit cityofevanston.org/chandler.

Prorating, Rain and Make Up Policies Tennis classes will not be prorated. Incomplete classes due to injury/health reasons may receive a prorated refund after submitting a doctor’s note.

Missed Classes Missed classes may be made up by attending an equivalent class within the same session. Instructor must be notified in advance, please call E-Town Tennis at 847-498-1360.

Rain If your class has been canceled due to rain, check cityofevanston.org/rainout or call the tennis rain hotline at 847-448-0034. We will always update the information at least one hour before the start of a class if it has been canceled–UNLESS there is sudden bad weather and it occurs less than one hour before your class. In that event, we’ll update it as soon as we make a decision. If your tennis class is rained out, you either may attend an equivalentlevel class within the same session or the instructor will discuss a make up with the participants at the next class after the rain out. The class will be made up if the majority of the participants agree that they can attend the make-up class at the offered time.

Make Up Class Before attending a make up class, please call E-Town Tennis at 847-498-1360 to find out which classes are available and to notify the instructors. If you are unable to attend a make up class within the same session, you will be given a credit for the missed class(es), which can be used toward the registration fee for the next tennis session.

GYMNASTICS

BEGINNING GYMNASTICS

Registering your child for the appropriate class is the first step to ensuring success and fun with gymnastics. Certain skills are necessary before taking the Advanced Beginning, Intermediate and Pre-Team classes. If your child has not mastered these skills, he or she will not be able to learn more advanced skills. Your child would then have to switch to a lower level class. Therefore, if your child has taken one year or more of gymnastics lessons and you are unsure if he or she should be in the Advanced Beginning or Intermediate class, please call Michelle at 847-448-8681 to discuss placement and which class would be best for your child. Private and group gymnastic lessons are also available for those interested in individualized attention or for those who are aged-out of certain levels. For more information call ChandlerNewberger at 847-448-8252.

Our beginning classes are for children who have never taken a gymnastic class or who have taken a class for less than one year. Hockey EVANSTON YOUTH HOCKEY Evanston Youth Hockey Association (EYHA) provides an affordable, diverse, quality program for boys and girls in Evanston and neighboring communities to learn and play ice hockey at competitive levels in Evanston. Program includes the house program and the travel program. Our house program meets two days a week and serves those players who are interested in hockey, but only want to play on weekends. Our travel program competes in the Northern Illinois Hockey League. EYHA travel programs have won state titles–most recently in the Under-10 girls division and NIHL Championships. Did you know? EYHA is a member of the NHL Diversity family. EYHA has been a leader in the area of diversity since the 1960s and it is an honor for the National Hockey League to grant them NHL Diversity affiliate status.

House League The Mite program is administered as an in-house program emphasizing skill development and fun. Squirts and above compete against other North Shore rinks.

Travel Hockey EYHA administers the travel hockey and teams are offered from Mite through high school. Players have a more intense practice and playing schedule geared toward a higher level of competition. Conditioning begins in August; tryouts begin in September. Those interested in playing or coaching, contact Del Morris, Director of Evanston Hockey, at 847-894-1521. For more info on EYHA, visit evanstonhockey.com.

SEPTEMBER 4 LEVY LECTURE SERIES Pamela Bannos, professor of photography in Northwestern University’s Department of Art Theory and Practice, will discuss her critically acclaimed book, Vivian Maier: A Photographer’s Life and Afterlife. Bannos’ richly detailed and meticulously researched study contrasts Maier’s life with the mythology that strangers—mostly the men who have profited from her work—have created around her absence. The much-promulgated myth of Maier as a “nanny savant” has eclipsed her true achievements, skills, and intentions. Bannos, an artist and researcher who utilizes methods that highlight the forgotten and overlooked, explores the links between visual representation, urban space, history, and collective memory. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, including in solo exhibitions in London, England, and New York.
