In 2014, the City completed the Arrington Lakefront Lagoon Renovation Project, making improvements to paving, masonry, and mechanical and electrical systems. The project was partially funded by a donation from the Arrington Foundation and an Illinois Department of Natural Resources grant. Printed on 30% recycled paper with seed-based ink.

Planned Infrastructure Improvement Projects in 2015 The City of Evanston has begun design and planning work for 2015 and beyond. This year, City staff will be talking with the community regarding a number of planned projects, including: • Streetscape improvements on Central St. • Construction of a bike path along Church St. and ETHS, from McCormick Blvd. to Dodge Ave.

• Construction of a protected bike lane along Dodge Ave., from Howard St. to Church St. • Church St. Boat Ramp renovations • Improvements to the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center parking lot • Improvements to the Ladd Arboretum Multiuse Path See inside for a map of planned 2015 infrastructure improvement projects.

Collections The City’s 2015 Recycling Fair will take place Saturday, July 11 from 9am to noon at ETHS, 1600 Dodge Ave. For more information, visit the City’s online calendar at cityofevanston.org, or call/text 847-448-4311.

Disposable Plastic Shopping Bags Beginning August 1, 2015, large Evanston retailers will no longer provide point-ofsale disposable plastic shopping bags to customers as the result of an ordinance passed by the Evanston City Council in 2014. Evanston’s shopping bag ordinance impacts stores larger than 10,000 square feet that are part of a chain or franchise. Impacted stores include: Aldi, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Cost Plus World Market, CVS, Food 4 Less, Gordon Food Service, The Home Depot, Jewel-Osco, Marshalls, Office Depot, OfficeMax, PetSmart, Sam’s Club, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walgreens and Whole Foods. Dine-in and take-out restaurants, as well as non-chain stores, are exempt.

The ordinance does not prohibit customers from using bags of any type brought to the store for their own use. Additionally, pointof-sale paper bags and plastic bags used to package products in-store, such as produce, are not affected. To help ease the transition away from disposable plastic shopping bags, the City is working to make reusable bags accessible to all Evanston residents. Beginning Earth Day, April 22, individuals and organizations will be able to drop off or pick up reusable bags at Evanston community centers as part of a new “Share-a-Bag” program. Plastic film and bags will also be able to be dropped off for recycling at the same locations. For more information, call/text 847-448-4311 or visit cityofevanston.org/bags.

Yard Waste Collections The City’s weekly yard waste pick-ups begin on Wednesday, April 1 and continue on residents’ regular refuse collection day through December 3.

The City offers two options to dispose of yard waste: 1. Place yard waste in paper yard bags, such as 30-gallon kraft paper lawn waste bags. A yard waste sticker must be affixed to each lawn waste bag. Residents can buy yard waste stickers for $1.75 each at JewelOsco grocery stores, Lemoi Hardware, Harold’s Hardware, The Home Depot, the Levy Senior Center and the City Collector’s office. Plastic bags will not be collected.

2. F ill a 95-gallon yard waste cart (available for purchase). These reusable carts do not require the use of bags. To order a yard waste cart, complete the order form online at cityofevanston.org/yardwaste Residents can pay online or at the City Collector’s office. A cart costs $82.50 plus a $25 annual fee. Tree trimming bundles must be less than three feet in total diameter, with individual branches being less than four feet long and less than three inches in diameter. Bundles must be affixed with a yard waste sticker. Raking or blowing yard waste or leaves into the streets is illegal. Violators will be fined. Special pick-up fees for yard waste collection will be assessed after 48 hours for bags without stickers. Three bags will be charged $25. Each additional three bags will be charged $10.
