Tree trimming bundles must be affixed with a yard waste sticker. Branches should not exceed four inches in diameter or four feet in length.
Food and yard waste cart (food and yard waste) As part of an expanded composting program, food scraps can “ride along” with grass clippings and leaves in food and yard waste carts. Order a cart at cityofevanston.org/yardwaste or call 311. Cost: $82.50 plus a $25 annual fee.
Yard waste bag with sticker (yard waste only) Yard waste only can also be disposed of in paper yard waste bags affixed with an Evanston yard waste sticker, available at the Morton Civic Center, Levy Senior Center, and other locations. Cost: $1.75 each.
Food Waste by Collective Resource Year-round composting is available through the City’s exclusive food scrap hauler, Collective Resource, by visiting www.collectiveresource.us.
Gasoline-powered leaf blowers are allowed March 30 to May 15 and September 30 through the first Thursday of December on weekdays, 7am–9pm, and Saturday, Sunday and holidays, 9am-5pm. Help keep our water safe
Transfer your time!
As water from rain or melting snow travels over land or through the ground, it dissolves substances resulting from human activity, polluting local watersheds and Lake Michigan.
Parking in Evanston just got more convenient! With the City’s new Time Transfer program, drivers using the ParkEvanston mobile app can now move their vehicle to another zone during their parking session without having to complete a second transaction. Visit parkevanston.org to download the app and learn more. (Note: Zone must be of an equal rate; maximum hours will be enforced.)
Reducing Pollutants You can help safeguard our water by minimizing the discharge of pollutants from your property, such as vehicle oil and fuel drips, winter de-icing materials, fertilizers, and paints. Learn more at cityofevanston.org/stormwater-runoff.
Green Infrastructure Green inrastructure, such as rain barrels and rain gardens, helps reduce and treat stormwater at its source while delivering environmental, social and economic benefits. Learn about options for your property at cityofevanston.org/green.
Water/sewer line responsibility The City works year round to maintain Evanston’s extensive network of water and sewer mains. Water customers are responsible for maintaining their water service line from the home to the City’s service valve, located underground between the home and the street. Sewer customers are responsible for maintaining their sewer service line from the home to the sewer main, located under the street. View an illustration at cityofevanston.org/knowyourlines.
311 is your guide to City services! Have a question or request? • Call/text 847-448-4311 • Visit cityofevanston.org/311 • Use the Evanston 311 mobile app
2020 changes Several changes to parking enforcement hours and rates were implemented as part of the 2020 Budget: • Parking is now free on Sundays at City meters and pay stations. • The hourly rate for meters and pay stations is now $2 per hour citywide. Commuter lot rates remain 50 cents per hour. • The fee structure for monthly and hourly parking in the City’s three downtown garages changed due to a new parking tax imposed by the State of Illinois. Parking in City garages remains free for less than one hour, and all day on Sundays.
Visit cityofevanston.org/parking to learn more.
Wheel Tax To improve the efficiency of City operations and to make payment more convenient for those traveling to City facilities, the City of Evanston transitioned to an October 1 through September 30 wheel tax period. In July, wheel tax renewal notifications will be sent for the period of October 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021. Payment will be due by September 30, 2020. All vehicles registered to an Evanston address are required to pay the annual wheel tax. The cost is $85 for a typical passenger vehicle. Visit cityofevanston.org/wheeltax for information.
