Water and Sewer
Reduced Water and Sewer Rate
Did you know that you may qualify for a reduced water and sewer bill? As part of the City’s efforts to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, high-quality drinking water, all Evanston community members who qualify for the Evanston Benefit Card can participate in this program. Learn more at cityofevanston.org/affordablerate
Reducing Pollutants
You can help safeguard our water by minimizing the discharge of pollutants from your property, such as vehicle oil and fuel drips, winter de-icing materials, fertilizers, and paints. Learn more at cityofevanston.org/stormwaterrunoff.
Sewer Repair Financial Assistance Program
Have you recently completed a sewer repair? You may be eligible for the City’s Sewer Repair Financial Assistance Program! The City is providing financial assistance to income-qualified community members who’ve completed sewer repairs in 2021 or later to alleviate a public nuisance, hazardous condition and environmental threat. Learn more at cityofevanston.org/sewerrepair
Street Lights and Alleys
Street and Alley Lights
To report street light outages in your neighborhood, please contact 311.
To report alley light outages, please contact ComEd at 1-800-EDISON1. The City of Evanston does not maintain alley lighting.
Alley Maintenance
Each year, starting in the spring, Evanston’s more than 300 unpaved alleys are periodically graded by the City. This is done to eliminate potholes and ruts caused by vehicles, weather and other factors. The process improves travel and reduces puddling. Scan the QR code for a 2024 alley maintenance schedule or visit cityofevanston.org/alleymaintenance.

The best way to protect your trees against extreme weather, climate change, and pests or diseases is to give them what they like best: mulch and a little bit of water during the summer. Scan the QR code or visit cityofevanston.org/ treecare for expert advice from The Morton Arboretum, including how to water and mulch trees correctly.
