Goodyear Recreation Catalog Fall 2004 Pool Information The Goodyear Pool, 430 E. Loma Linda Ave., will be open on weekends starting August 14th until September 19th. The pool hours are noon to 8:00 p.m. For pool information, call 623-932-4809.

Youth Sports The City of Goodyear and the Southwest Valley Regional YMCA will be offering Fall Youth Sports at the New Goodyear Community Park, Estrella Mountain Ranch Fields and local school gyms. The registration deadline is August 31st. Fee: Each program is $30 per participant. There is a $15 cost for the required jersey for participants that do not already have one.

Adult Softball Leagues The City will have Adult Softball Leagues at the New Goodyear Community Park located 3151 N. Litchfield Rd. All leagues will play 14 regular season games with a single elimination tournament at the end. All regular season games will be double headers. Game times will be 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 & 9:00 p.m. Minimum number of teams is (6) six. Maximum number of teams is (8) eight. Awards will be given for league play and tournament play. Fee: $360 per team made up of at least 75% Goodyear residents; $385 for non-resident team. All leagues will start the week of September 13th: Monday Evenings – Men’s over 50 Tuesday Evenings – Men’s C Thursday Evenings – Men’s D Friday Evenings – Coed Over 50 Saturday Evenings – Coed D Sunday Evenings – Coed Recreational Registration begins August 16th and closes September 3rd. Registration is on a first come/first serve basis. Teams can register in person at Goodyear Public Works, 200 S. AM Youth Classes** Music Class

Parent/Tot Music Time 10am - 11am, Friday 6-week class begins on 9/24/04. Children ages 6 months - 4 yrs with parent or primary caregiver. A fun, interactive way for families to bring music into their home. Helps develop musical competency in young children and their caregivers. Each child and caregiver duo will learn how to play together in ways that will enhance the child’s musical and general development. Learn new songs and games and play music on child-friendly instruments. One child per caregiver. Fee: $71 Resident; $76 Non-resident

PM Youth Classes** Science

Mad Science - 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday 6-week class starts on Sept. 13th. Grades 1 - 5. Explore the wonderful world of science! Uncover the secrets of chemistry as you learn how to test for acid rain & make your own CO2 fire extinguisher! Explore 3 states of matter as you turn water into ice in 30 seconds, build a giant bubbling potion, and create awesome smoke illusions! Understand polymers as you create an oozing batch of slime Learn about optics reflections and sight while creating your own periscope! You’ll take home an exciting hands-on project at the end of each class period. Allow the Mad Science staff to spark YOUR imaginative learning!

Phoenix Conservatory of Music (PCM) faculty has had special training with The Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ and the Stratford Career Institute. Class size limited to 15 caregiver/child teams. No prior experience required.

ABC’ s and 123’s Learning for Tots 10am - 11am, Thursday 6-week class starts on Sept. 16th. Children ages 3 - 5.

Students are introduced to the basic elements of dance. Instruction will focus on the technical skills of ballet and tumbling. Children will learn a short performance in order to demonstrate and utilize skills learned.

Children learn through games, songs, stories and more. Your child will concentrate on number and letter recognition, calendar and time, colors and shapes, sharing, listening, and social skills. Fee: $35 Resident; $40 Non-resident

Craft Classes

Arts and Crafts 10am - 11am, Tuesday 6-week class starts on Sept. 14th. Children ages 3 - 5. Children have fun creating art & craft projects that any parent would be proud to display. Art is one area where this is no right or wrong way of doing things - anything goes! Each child is unique in his/her artistic expression. Fee: $35 Resident; $40 Non-resident

Dance

Preschool Dance 4 pm – 4:45 pm, Tuesday 8-week class starts on Sept. 14th. Children ages 3 - 5.

Fee: $45 Resident; $50 Non-resident Cheer 5 pm-6 pm, Tuesday 8-week class starts on Sept. 14th. Children ages 6 - 9. Children learn cheer basics including proper feet and arm positions and basic stunting. All of these skills will be showcased into energetic routines. Fee: $45 Resident; $50 Non-resident Hip Hop 6pm -7pm, Tuesday 8-week class starts on Sept. 14th. Ages 10 - Adult. Students learn basic elements of beginning hip-hop. Sports Class

Start Smart Sports Development is a program that teaches children the fundamentals of sports in a non-competitive and non-threatening environment. Allows children the opportunity to work one-on-one with a parent. Teaches children a variety of sports skills including kicking, running, passing, throwing and agility. Offers exercises that become increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and improvement is shown. Fee: $35 Resident; $40 Non-resident

Tennis

Ralley Ball - YOUTH The USA Team Tennis Ralleyball format is designed to allow kids ages 5-13 to play the game of tennis in an easy and fun way. They will learn the game, be on a team with their friends, and have a great time! No experience necessary! Players will learn skills during a one-hour practice per week with a tennis instructor. Teams will compete each week in a one-hour match within their age division. All matches and practices are held at Millenium High School. EVERYONE PLAYS! The season will begin with practices on Monday, Sept. 13th and matches on Thursday, Sept. 16th for six consecutive weeks (twice a week) in the evenings. Racquets will be available free of charge for use during the season. To learn more, there will be an open house held on Thursday, Sept. 9th from 7 pm – 8:30 pm at Millennium HS courts (Fee includes all practices, matches, Team Tennis T-shirt, awards and the season-end party). Exercise

Basic Karate 6 pm -7 pm, Monday 8-week class starts on Sept. 13th.

Group Exercise 6 pm- 7 pm, Wednesday 8-week class for adults begins Sept. 15th. This is an introductory class to various aerobic and anaerobic exercises. It will require the execution of aerobic routines lead by the instructor for the duration of the class. The session will focus on toning the muscles, increasing heart rate, and flexibility and incorporate movements, variables, and skills. A segment of the class will touch on some elements of Pilates and Yoga.

Fall Camp 2004 FALL CAMP 8am-5pm, Monday - Friday* Day Camp runs from October 11 through October 15th. Grades K - 6th. Early drop-off 7:30 am/ Last pick-up 5:30 pm. Experienced instructors will lead children through a fun-filled, adventurous week! Activities include gymnastics, swim (heated pool), dance, art, stories, games, movies, tennis and trips to the park. Upon registration, parents will receive a detailed schedule of events along with medical forms to be completed. (The program is limited to the first 30 participants.) Fee: $125 Residents and Non-residents
