STATE OF THE CITY Special Edition

Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord

Mayor Georgia Lord

Last year was one of tremendous success and advancement for the city of Goodyear.

With a fast-growing population of just under 78,000 residents, the city is proud to provide our citizens with the exceptional quality of life that you expect and deserve. Now, more than ever, the city is soliciting and encouraging public involvement in an effort to better understand your wants and needs, and to create an ideal community in which to live, work, and raise a family. The importance of the feedback that you shared in the recent Citizen Satisfaction Survey cannot be overstated, and as your mayor, I am so thankful for your candid thoughts, feelings, and direction. With 85% of residents who responded to the Citizen Satisfaction Survey identifying parks as a key funding priority, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with a number of community partners like Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Abrazo West Campus, Adelante Healthcare, John D. Kuhn Ventures, and others, have solidified plans to develop a 129-acre Community Health Park along Interstate 10 that will encourage and foster health and wellness throughout our community in the coming years. Additionally in 2016, key city departments like Engineering, Development Services, and Economic Development focused on streamlining their processes and working more collaboratively to ensure that doing business in Goodyear is as easy as possible for small and large businesses alike. Our Public Works Department also made incredible strides last year to

secure and maintain safe, reliable water resources that will support our future growth needs. And, with growth in mind, we made a considerable investment in citywide public safety with a 20,000 square foot state-of-the-art Police Operations facility, and an additional police squad to help keep our citizens safe. These examples of our city’s successes in 2016 are more than exciting, they are inspiring. I am so privileged and thankful to serve as your mayor, and I am thrilled about the many advancements and achievements that we have to look forward to in 2017.

Staff took advantage of lower interest rates in the bond market to produce more than

in savings for the city.

in citizens feel safe in Goodyear.

A top priority for Goodyear,

the growing Police Department dedicated in December a new 20,000-square foot operations building at the Goodyear Municipal Complex near Van Buren Street and Bullard Avenue. It houses the Patrol Division and features a community room to encourage citizen involvement.

Fleet Division’s new process dramatically decreased the turn-around time for police patrol cars, fire apparatus, and trash collection vehicles.

Customer Service slashed the time it takes to set up new utility billing accounts by 30 percent.

Securing Our Water Future Recognizing the vital role water plays in development and securing a prosperous future, the City Council formed an 11-member Water Conservation Committee to recommend priorities to reduce water usage. Four new reclaimed water injection wells, along the east side of Estrella Parkway between Harrison and Van Buren, allow the city to recharge the aquifer and augments its water portfolio. 6

The second phase of the $83 million Loop 303/I-10 interchange project will build the four remaining ramps to extend Loop 303 south to Van Buren Street. City officials worked with the Arizona Department of Transportation to accelerate — by two years — the application of rubberized asphalt to I-10 for noise abatement.
