Mayor Georgia Lord
Technology Comes to Goodyear
… and much more
There’s no doubt, 2018 has certainly been a remarkable year for the city of Goodyear. I am incredibly humbled and honored to experience a multitude of successes with all of you, success which we can attribute to the commitment of our residents and business community. Although we continue to experience exponential growth, I am encouraged by the small-town community feel that we strive to preserve. I am excited to announce that Vantage Data Centers has chosen Goodyear for its expansion! Vantage is a leading provider of data center solutions, and will build a mega-scale campus on a 50-acre site, housing three data centers. Construction is expected to begin this summer near Bullard Avenue and Van Buren Street. It’s becoming clear that high-tech companies are choosing Goodyear as the place to be due to our dedicated and skilled workforce and our commitment to attracting businesses which will help our city flourish. I am confident this is the first of many more high-tech companies to come. Diversity has become a key word in today’s housing market. Aside from the increasing single-family projects coming to Goodyear, homes are beginning to take on new shapes and sizes throughout the city. It’s exciting to see the variety of options, including high-quality multi-family housing, enhance the city’s landscape. Being able to provide a variety of housing options strengthens Goodyear’s ability to attract new families and professionals alike. As we continue to increase in population, I anticipate new restaurants and retail options to follow with more exciting announcements to come. Some big name companies decided to call Goodyear their home this year. They include Adelante Healthcare, Ball Corporation, Chewy.com, Columbia College, LIV Goodyear and Dutch Bros, just to name a few. On the horizon, we look forward to the grand opening of Urban Air Adventure Park and Eos Fitness and the groundbreaking for Cheddars Scratch Kitchen, Andersen Corporation and many more. Others are making a national name for themselves, including Enroute Coffee & Tea House. Not only is the shop celebrating its second anniversary, it was recently named Best Coffee Shop in Arizona according to USA Today. We are proud to have all of our retail, entertainment, restaurants, schools and industrial and manufacturing companies choose Goodyear as the place to be. The city of Goodyear understands how important it is for each of you to easily get to and from your points of destination each day, whether it be to work or school, or to one of our seven signature events! That is why the Goodyear City Council approved the Pavement Improvement Plan. In fiscal year 2018, nearly 100 lane-miles of preservation, rehabilitation and reconstruction projects were completed to improve the city’s roadways. In fiscal year 2019, it continues with more than 40 lane-miles to be improved. There are several other ways our city is working to make life in Goodyear better each day. As you drive along the newly improved roadways, I hope you notice the five traffic cabinets now painted and wrapped with local artist-inspired designs as part of a beautification pilot program. In addition, our new pickleball courts at the Goodyear Community Park have been a big hit! 2

Vantage Data Centers Chooses Goodyear Keeping our community safe continues to be our number one priority. You may see our Goodyear police officers helping to find solutions for the homeless community. In addition, you may spot new fire engines rushing to urgent calls to save lives. Both of our Police and Fire Departments continue to strive to provide the highest level of safety for our community. The city of Goodyear experienced several changes in leadership in 2018. Laura Kaino was appointed to complete Joanne Osborne’s term as councilmember. In addition, we also selected City Manager Julie Arendall, to lead the Goodyear team to success. And most recently, we announced the appointment of Presiding Municipal Judge Mayra Galindo, who is expected to take the bench in early 2019. Additionally, new directors were hired to cover economic development and communications; two areas of importance which will have a big impact on the success of our city.
Lastly, as the city continues to grow and gain momentum, we remember how far we’ve come since the recession. We must continue to learn from those harder times by evaluating processes to streamline procedures and always work to save tax dollars. For instance, the City Clerk’s Office reduced their building and fire permitting process from 2 days, down to just 30 minutes. Additionally, our Parks and Recreation team reduced the landscape trimming cycle by fifty percent! These efficiencies are proof that the city continues to work smarter each day. Goodyear is committed to providing a well-planned, high-quality community that you deserve. I’m confident that the state of the city will continue to remain strong and prosperous. This special edition of InFocus will touch on our many accomplishments in 2018, with a look at what’s to come in 2019. I look forward to seeing what 2019 holds in store for all of us who call Goodyear home. Happy New Year!

What is your vision for Goodyear in 2019?
My vision for 2019 is that we will continue to attract businesses and residential development, while providing quality services and exceptional public safety for our residents. Through strong planning and sound financial management, Goodyear will create an environment where businesses continue to grow and expand, offering high paying jobs to support residents and build the local economy. This will pave the way for additional amenities, retail and amusement so residents don’t have to leave the city in search of entertainment. Goodyear is a safe, pristine community and I am proud of the steps that we have taken to ensure responsible growth and prosperity in the future. Councilmember Joe Pizzillo
My vision is that Goodyear continues to be the leader in job creation allowing us to attract diverse housing products. We will begin construction of the longawaited Recreation Campus at Estrella Parkway and Goodyear Boulevard, better solidifying our city as a great place to raise a family. I hope to see the effectiveness of our government better illustrated in this year’s budget. We should feel confident that our tax dollars are being spent efficiently while maintaining an exceptional quality of life. Finally, we must deliver the finest of all services, including through our low crime rate and improved fire response times. All of this will continue to make our city a place everyone is proud to call home. Councilmember Bill Stipp
The city of Goodyear is a wonderful place to live, and we are so blessed that our residents are active and engaged in the community. In 2019, we will continue to focus on developing prosperity and opportunity throughout our city. This includes increasing efforts to bring new businesses, retail, entertainment and educational offerings. While we are excited about new growth, I will always promote and preserve a high quality of life for the residents that choose to make Goodyear their home. Vice Mayor Wally Campbell

My vision for Goodyear is for us to grow but keep that community feel. I want our community to be a great place where people of all ages and generations can live, work and play. My vision includes a vibrant employment and technical base with an assortment of activities and opportunities for all of our residents. Goodyear needs to continue to plan for this exciting future. Together we can work for a future we can all be proud of. Councilmember Sheri Lauritano
This is an exciting time for Goodyear as we continue to attract business, industry and residential development. The ongoing challenge for council is to be both practical and visionary in assessing our current needs and anticipating what our residents will expect five to 10 years from now. To help us be good stewards of our city today and build purposefully towards our future, we must be innovative and creative in increasing resident engagement. We can do that through connecting in a variety of forums to help residents have a better understanding of how our government works and is meaningful to all generations who make Goodyear their home. Councilmember Laura Kaino
I am excited about the future of Goodyear, and I’m enthusiastic for our potential to grow as a safe and vibrant city for all. We are the place where people want to be and raise their families. I envision a continued focus on effective economic development to attract good jobs, entertainment, shopping and dining options for our residents. Additionally, I will continue to promote community health through highquality parks and excellent recreational programs. Goodyear is an amazing city and we will continue to build a community that offers residents a quality balance of life, work and play that is a great place for all generations. Councilmember Brannon Hampton

Going Green The city purchased its very first electric vehicle and charging station this year. Residents can expect to see the car around town very soon.

Fiscal and Resource Management
We never stop looking for ways to improve our services. That’s why we’re always looking at ways to work smarter and more efficiently, to save time – and money.
Working Faster The City Clerk’s Office reduced the time it takes to fulfill public records requests for building permit lists from two days down to just 30 minutes. A simple, yet practical change in process eliminated unnecessary steps.
Better Service Through Technology The Goodyear Police Department rolled out its online reporting tool. Previously, residents had to report non-emergency crimes in person. Now, it can be done online, anywhere, any time.
Working Efficiently Trees at our parks provide beauty and shade, but all those trees need trimming. Crews figured out a way to improve their trimming process, getting the job done 50 percent faster! That allows them to be more productive with their time.
