Keeping Our Roads Safe: Avoiding Driving Distractions

Being safe on the road starts with being an alert driver. Remember, it is illegal to use an electronic device that is not in hands-free mode while driving. It’s a primary offense, meaning that officers can pull you over for using a handheld device while driving. If that text message or call can’t wait, find a safe location to pull off the road before responding. Distracted driving isn’t only the phone. Avoid other activities that prevent you from focusing on the road and anything that forces your hands off the steering wheel or can slow your response.

Sharing the Street

Road construction can be inconvenient, but it’s incredibly important to pay attention and follow the rules in a construction zone. Each year, construction and road workers are injured and even killed by motorists in construction zones. According to the latest reports from the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse, there were 21 fatal crashes in Arizona work zones in 2021.

Fines may be doubled when workers are present in construction zones.

IN CONSTRUCTION ZONES, REMEMBER:

  • KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE

  • FOLLOW TRAFFIC SIGNS AND ROAD CREW FLAGGERS

  • BE PATIENT
