On the Cover:
The season has arrived for High Point Parks & Recreation’s fall programs and events like the Boo Bash at High Point City Lake Park, which will return this year on Saturday, Oct. 7. Spooky Hoopla, another seasonal favorite, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21, at the High Point Athletic Complex. Both are lots of fun for youth and families!
Other great seasonal programs include Piedmont Environmental Center’s Halloween Safari, a series of educational evening walks along PEC’s trails on Oct. 27 and 28, and our Fall Leaf Tours, an opportunity to take in the beautiful fall scenery on a 45-minute boat ride on beautiful Arnold J. Koonce, Jr. City Lake. You can also sign up for a kayak tour of the lake with one of our certified guides.
Fall sports will be in full swing through our Athletics section, ASPIRE will be offering its annual Halloween dance on Tuesday, Oct. 24 and Southside Recreation Center will be hosting a Halloween party for kindergarteners – fifth graders on Monday, Oct. 30!
There are so many possibilities to explore this fall and so many ways to “Play, Learn and Enjoy” through High Point Parks & Recreation. Please follow us on social media and visit our website to learn more. We look forward to seeing you soon! Get social with us!
Citywide Youth Basketball League
In addition to some great programs for adults, High Point Parks & Recreation offers an array of youth athletics programming throughout the year. When we think about kids getting involved with sports, we tend to think about winning games, winning tournaments and championship trophies, right?
The truth is, youth athletics is about so much more than winning. The lessons learned teach kids about focus, strategy, goal setting and self-confidence. Team sports reinforce leadership and the value of teamwork. Fun, friendship and improved health through physical activity are other bonuses.
High Point Parks & Recreation’s Citywide Youth Basketball Program is designed to provide a competitive recreational basketball program that will develop the fundamental skills, abilities and basketball knowledge for boys and girls ages six to twelve. Each age group will be assigned to one of our recreation center gymnasiums. We utilize volunteer coaches, athletics and recreation center staff to facilitate practices and games at each site and provide an organized sports experience.
Are you interested in learning more, registering your son or daughter or possibly becoming a volunteer coach? We would love to hear from you! Registration dates are from Sept. 1 through Nov. 25. You can register online 24 hours a day by visiting www.highpointnc.gov/610/programs, calling our office at 336.883.3472 or emailing eli.campbell@highpointnc.gov.
