Lee’s Summit Illustrated • Winter 2021-2022
I cannot believe 2021 is almost over. It has been a busy, challenging, and ever-changing year. We slowly started adding and expanding programs, experiences, and operational amenities in an effort to reach pre-COVID services. We are almost back to 100% operations and hopefully in 2022 we will get there.
Our parks, trails, and outside activities have never been busier. This past year I have appreciated watching our community enjoy recent park renovations, the wave pool addition at Summit Waves, and the re-opening of Legacy Park Amphitheater. We continue to make large and small improvements to our parks system. Park renovations like Lowenstein Park and Summit Park are easy to see and track but we have also made smaller improvements like, installing grills at many park locations, trail improvements in several parks, additional miles of trails, and upgrades to bioswales and landscaping to improve the beauty of our parks, as well as, positively impacting our environment.

This next year you can expect to see continued upgrades and improvements including renovations to Velie Park and Pleasant Lea Park, the addition of wayfinding signage at Legacy Park, a new shelter at Deer Valley Park, and, of course, our continued high level of maintenance and care in all of our parks. Recreation staff are also in the planning stages for full facility operations at our community centers and a full year of recreational activities, programs and special events. The new year is looking bright and we are excited to serve “Every Age, Every Season” in 2022.
