First-Come, First-Paid: Space is limited for most of the programs we offer, and registration is accepted on a first-come, first-paid basis. In some instances, a waiting list may be available.
MHKPRD Scholarship Policy: Some of our programs qualify for scholarships. Scholarships provide 50% off registration fees up to $150 per qualifying household. You must show proof of participation in the USD Free/ Reduced Fees program, or qualification under Federal Income Availability Guidelines.
Refund Policy for Activities Requiring Registration: Registrants will receive a full refund if we cancel the program, or we may be able to transfer you to another class. A full refund is granted if request to withdraw is received 1 week (7 days) before the class or event start date. A partial refund is issued when requested between 1 week and at least 48 hours before the start date. No refunds will be granted if the request is less than 48 hours in advance or if the participant fails to show. Participant withdrawals must be received during business hours.

Manhattan Parks and Recreation offers a discount to participants who register early for our youth and adult programs. If you register for a program up to 2 weeks prior to the registration closing, you will receive 20% off your fee.
Youth 3v3 Basketball
Each team will be scheduled to play 2 games per night. Practices for team registrations will not be scheduled by MPRD, but will offer a free reservation once a week to hold practices. Practices will start the week of March 10. Games start April 3 and will end April 24, followed by an end of season tournament on May 1.

Each team will play two matches each night. We also offer a grade school league for those who will be in grades 4th– 6th in the 2025/2026 school year. Their matches will be played primarily on Thursdays but could have Wednesday games.

Baseball is for 1st-8th graders in the 2024/2025 school year. There will be three weeks of practices that start the week of May 19th. There will be one game per week for the first two weeks of games (June 11 & 18), then two games per week for the rest of the season for a total of 8 games. Games will be played on Wednesday for the first two weeks, then Mondays and Wednesdays for the remainder of the season. 7th/8th grade teams will play against other local recreation department teams.

Take a rare and exciting look at the life of dinosaurs through their eggs, nests and young in Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies. This remarkable handson exhibition includes an amazing collection of dinosaur eggs and nests from all over the globe –including those of each of the major plant and meateating dinosaur groups.

The Make It! Workshop series is an opportunity for youth and adults to work together to build a unique take home project. This program is designed for one youth and one adult to work together, learn new skills, and have fun in the process!
This workshop is for youth ages 5-17 and a required adult age 18+ to assist. Registration fee covers 1 youth and 1 adult participant. Please register under the youth’s name.

Manhattan Seed Swap
The Manhattan Seed Swap is a free come-and-go event open to the public in the FHDC atrium for the sharing and swapping of saved and leftover seeds before spring planting begins. Seeds of all types are welcome and will be grouped by category. Tables will be setup in the atrium for vegetables, annual flowers, perennials, native plants, herbs, etc. Seeds can be commercially pre-packaged or harvested and will be available on a first come first serve basis.
Meet the Makers
This year marks the 10th annual Meet the Makers event! Each day, a local creator, crafter, or maker will present live demonstrations of their work in the first-floor atrium of the Flint Hills Discovery Center. Interact with the artists, ask questions, and see their work come to life! This event is free and open to the public. Regular admission rates apply to enter the exhibits.
