WELCOME!

As the days grow shorter and the chill of winter sets in, Riverside Theatres welcomes you to embrace the warmth and magic of live performance. It's hard to believe just how swiftly the year is passing, and yet here we are, ready to indulge in the joy, laughter, and drama that only theatre can offer.

As we bid farewell to the warmer months of summer, we invite you to join us for an unforgettable journey through our autumn and winter program. From heartwarming tales to side-splitting comedy, our lineup promises to light up the dark winter nights and leave you uplifted and inspired.

Kickstarting off April, we're proud to present Wild Dogs Under My Skirt, a work that comes to us from New Zealand and off-Broadway. The production breathes fierce life into poetry, womanhood and the unsettling challenge to tradition and conformity. For our youngest theatregoers, we have a spectacular school holiday program with Flying Fruit Fly Circus’ Tempo, featuring an extraordinary ensemble of young performers aged 12 to 18. In addition, we're excited to welcome back the return of international smash hit 360 ALLSTARS. In the July school holidays, enjoy the winner of the coveted Children's Choice Award and a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe sensation Children are Stinky and The Bugalugs Bum Thief, based on book by Tim Winton.

Music enthusiasts, rejoice! Our lineup features a diverse range of sounds. Award-winning singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke traverses the worlds of folk, pop, opera and musical theatre playing her greatest hits and stories from across her varied career. Two of Australia's most brilliant exponents of both early and contemporary singing, Celeste Lazarenko and Helen Sherman, join the Australian Haydn Ensemble to collaborate on

a ravishing program with Heavenly Sopranos. Then following the international success of Stalin’s Piano, virtuoso pianist Sonya Lifschitz and composer Robert Davidson create a series of musical portraits spanning centuries of female leaders, scientists and artists in So Much Myself: Piano Portraits

We return with some your favourites including Sydney Writers’ Festival’s ABC Radio Sydney Drive with Richard Glover featuring Thank God It’s Friday, Sydney Comedy Festival Gala, International Short Film Festival Flickerfest and the Behind the Lines: The year in political cartoons exhibition.

And perhaps most exciting of all is Queensland Theatre and New Theatrical’s stunning work Gaslight in late June. Get in early to witness this gripping psychological thriller with the best seats in the house - you won’t want to miss it. Plus, be sure to catch either the compelling exploration of families and generational divides in Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta's Karim by acclaimed playwright James Elazzi or Heather Miller in STC’s RBG: Of Many, One

We're excited to welcome you back to our house – your local house – for an unforgettable night out at the theatre. So bundle up, grab a friend, and join us as we celebrate the magic of live performance this winter season.

Combining Greek Tragedy, Epic and Physical Theatre to deliver a gripping experience with a thumping soundtrack. One of the great plays of the Western Canon, this psychological thriller follows the story of Medea, as the pressures of court politics, family, and discrimination within the patriarchy start to unravel her world. Themes that are, unfortunately, just as relevant today.

Medea is a former barbarian princess who left her world behind for the man she loves. When she learns that her husband Jason, leader of the Argonauts, is planning to leave her to marry Glauce, the Greek Princess of Corinth, her love and passion turns to blind rage. With her place in Greek society already under threat, Medea is then banished into exile. This devastating betrayal drives Medea to plot a shocking and calculated revenge on Jason, and take back control in a society ruled by men.

★★★★ “The Fruities prove once again that they are among Australia’s best circus companies for new talent with another on-song show.” – Arts Hub

Featuring an extraordinary ensemble of young performers aged between 12 and 18 who not only possess dazzling circus skills but also play instruments!

Shifting between striking aerial acts and highly choreographed acrobatic chaos, Tempo draws heavily on the traditional knockabout humour of the Flying Fruit Fly Circus – a trademark of the company over many years. Magic, slapstick, juggling, balancing, acrobatics and aerials tumble in, out and around the concert grand piano.

With no dialogue and plenty of gasp-inducing action, Tempo appeals to every age and is suitable, or perhaps essential, for all families during the school holidays.

ACCESSIBILITY

Riverside is committed to making our programs and venues welcoming and accessible for all people. If you require specific seating, audio or accessible parking please contact our Box Office on 02 8839 3399 who will be happy to assist. Our Customer Experience team can also help you to your seat if required.

LEVEL ACCESS

Level access from the street leads into our foyer. Level access continues into all venues. Space for wheelchairs is available in all venues but requires booking in advance.

BATHROOMS

Accessible bathrooms are available at each end of the foyer.

PARKING

Limited paid parking at Riverside is available for patrons with a current disability parking permit only. Ask the Box Office when booking your tickets.

HEARING ASSISTANCE

Riverside has an FM transmitter-receiver hearing system in all three theatres to assist patrons who are hearing impaired. Patrons can choose from a single ear earpiece, a neck loop for telecoil-equipped hearing aids and cochlear implants or their own headphones, to amplify the sound from the stage. This system is adaptable for people with all types of hearing loss. To access this free service, ask the Box Office when booking your tickets.

CAPTIONED EVENTS

Patrons with hearing impairment can access some live performances and cinema sessions through captioning. Captioning is available on large screens inside the theatre for live performances and as open captioning for some films.

COMPANION CARD

Riverside accepts the NSW Companion Card, allowing a support person free entry

VISION IMPAIRED

If you need seats closer to the front to be able to see and enjoy the show, please advise the Box Office when booking your tickets.

AUDIO DESCRIBED EVENTS

Select performances and cinema screenings are audio described for the benefit of blind or low vision patrons by providing a narration that provides detailed information and descriptions of the visual elements of a performance. This includes actions, expressions, gestures, sequences, costumes, and scenery. AD is relayed via a free headset and receiver linked to an FM transmitter-receiver hearing system. Tactile (sensory) pre-show tours are offered alongside AD performances. Advise the Box Office when booking your tickets.

AUSLAN INTERPRETATION

A number of performances at Riverside are selected to be interpreted with Australian Sign Language (Auslan). Interpreters are discreetly positioned on side stage and provide an opportunity for people who are Deaf to access and enjoy these performances.

RELAXED PERFORMANCES

These are sensory friendly performances where the perceived ‘rules’ of theatre are modified to allow patrons with Autism and other specific needs to enjoy the performance in a welcoming environment.

Modifications will differ depending on the production, but can include the house lights being dimmed, but not turned all the way down; the understanding that patrons may come and go from the theatre as needed; elements of the show that might include loud noises or sudden bright lights being toned down or removed.
