Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are a vital part of the City of Reno Inclusion/ Adaptive Recreation program. Volunteers will gain rewarding experiences through assisting Parks and Recreation staff with a variety of programs or providing additional support for participants. We are currently seeking volunteers for our upcoming programs!

David’s Chair Now Available at Rosewood Nature Study Area

Rosewood Nature Study Area is the newest location of a David’s Chair, Action Track Chair. Whether you want to explore the park, bird watch, or fish, this off-road wheelchair will get you off the pavement! Book in advance by following these steps:

Step 1: Go to davidschair.org

Step 2: Hover on “request a chair” and select “request fixed location chair”

Step 3: Scroll to “Reno Nevada” and select the day and time that you want to reserve the chair. The reservation goes to David’s Chair who then confirms it with Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation Onsite reservations are also welcome.

Adaptive Equipment Rental Program

Our adaptive recreation equipment is available to rent (sport wheelchairs, beach wheelchairs, hand cycles, etc.). Affordable prices for participants to try before they buy.

Community Bike Days

High Fives Foundation alongside the City of Reno will host a number of community bike days this summer. These events aim to bring people of all abilities together, provide free adaptive mountain bike rentals, and showcase a range of adaptive bikes. Join us at one or all of the Community Bike Days!

Achieve Tahoe Summer Sign-Ups are Open!

iCan Bike Camp

June 17 - 21

$199 per rider for Nevada residents. Scholarships available.

Reno Sparks Convention Center - 4590 South Virginia St.

Kids and adults with developmental disabilities can learn to ride a bike this summer! Riders attend one 75-minute session each day for five consecutive days, Monday - Friday. Choose a morning or afternoon session at registration.

Depending on the number of riders, sessions will be offered starting at 8:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:40 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Riders are assisted and encouraged by two volunteer spotters and taught by trained professionals. Over the course of camp, an adapted bike is adjusted to gradually introduce more instability and to help challenge the riders at their own pace.

Tennis Buddies Summer Camp

Workwise Summer Break Camp

For individuals with a documented disability age 1423 who are enrolled in an educational program. This FREE camp provides a nurturing environment where individuals can explore their potential, gain valuable vocational skills, and build confidence, setting them on a path toward fulfilling and independent futures.

Douglas County Kids’ Fishing DerbySpecial Needs Session

Saturday, June 1 2:30 p.m.

Lampe Park, Gardnerville

This session is reserved for children (and adults) of ALL ages with disabilities. Volunteers are available to help anglers on a one on one basis. All kids catch fish and wll be given a special gate prize.

Pre-registration is required by visiting either AJs Stoves (1267 Hwy 395, A) or Accolades Trophies (1532 Hwy 395 #10) in Garnerville to register and receive your special needs session ticket.

State of Nevada Distributes iBill Currency Readers Free of Charge

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) Bureau of Services to the Blind and Visually Impaired, is the first agency in the state to distribute iBill Currency Readers through a recently formed partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

The iBill Currency Reader is a device that is smaller than the size of a credit card and can be carried in a pocket or purse. When the bill is inserted into the device one can press the top button and it will announce the denomination of the bill. This device is designed for people with low or impaired vision and for deaf blind users.

Join us as we plan for our next year of fun, inclusive activities including meetings, and service projects all year! We’ve participated in events such as the Buddy Walk, holiday caroling with Sierra High Notes, helping with holiday crafts for kids at 39 North Pole holiday festival in sparks, and a lot more!

The City of Reno is offering our disabled veterans weekly fitness classes in our facility weight room. Classes will cover orientation to equipment, assessment of fitness level, proper technique to develop strength, endurance and flexibility, and discuss fitness goals.

Upon completion of our four classes participants will be eligible for a FREE all inclusive facility membership good for one year.

Nevada Paralyzed Veterans of America

This program is dedicated to improving the quality of life for veterans and our disabled community with spinal cord injury or dysfunction. Nevada PVA offers an active sports and recreation program for our members, and the disabled in our community. This organization sponsors programs in Northern Nevada that provides health benefits, support, opportunity and camaraderie for all involved.
