Hello and Welcome! to our famous Granny Smith Festival Welcome to Eastwood’s famous Granny Smith Festival – one of Sydney’s largest street festivals, in which the community comes together to celebrate the life of Maria Ann ‘Granny’ Smith and her Granny Smith apple. This year’s Granny Smith Festival truly has something for everyone. For the kids, we have PJ Masks performing at 12.00noon and 2.00pm, with a special chance for festivalgoers to also meet the members of the popular TV show on Eastwood Oval at 1.00pm. There is also a stack of activities planned at Eastwood Public School with a dedicated Youth Zone and Creative Kids Hub. Meanwhile, West Parade will be the place to be for the grown-ups with the return of Granny’s Cider Bar between 11.00am and 7.00pm, as well as Putt Putt and the DJ Boombox. There will also be an eco-glitter and hair braiding bar for those wanting to get into the festival spirit.

A huge finale concert is also planned. The Baker Boys Band will kick things off at 6.00pm before Excité Live Stunt Show wows the crowd with their award-winning stunt and music routine at 7.00pm. The event will end with a bang with a dazzling fireworks display at 8.00pm. Throughout the event, there will also be close to 250 stalls offering a wide variety of gifts and products. In line with the City of Ryde’s Reduce Single Use Plastic Policy, there will be no single-use plastic water bottles, straws or bags available at this year’s festival. Festivalgoers are encouraged to bring their own water bottle and take advantage of the free Sydney Water refill stations. The Granny Smith Festival would not be possible without the support of its sponsors, particularly RMA Eastwood which is once again the event’s Platinum sponsor. From all at the City of Ryde, we hope you have a great day and enjoy all the fun that the Granny Smith Festival has to offer.

Granny Smith History Maria Ann ‘Granny’ Smith was a local. She and her husband Thomas had a farm in Eastwood, near the Field of Mars. It was here, in 1868 that she ‘accidentally’ grew the first Granny Smith apples, when some crab apple seeds sprouted in the compost heap, and she recognised them as a new kind of seedling. Today these tangy green apples are grown, eaten and enjoyed throughout the world. Granny Smith would have been astonished! This year we celebrate 34 years of the Granny Smith Festival!

Getting There Last year, around 90,000 people came to the Festival. Parking is limited, so leave the car at home and catch a bus, train or the Shop Ryder free shuttle service. Visit Trip Planner at www.transportnsw.info to organise your journey from start to finish or visit www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/gettingtogsf

Disability Drop Off Zone If you have a disability parking permit and require close access to the festival, use our Drop-off Zone. Entry is on the corner of Shaftsbury Road and Hillview Lane located on the map.

Grand Street Parade The festivities kick off at 9.30am with a 2,000-strong Grand Street Parade celebrating our vibrant and diverse community. The streets of Eastwood are transformed into a swirling sea of colour and sound featuring some of the best marching bands, community floats, dancers and of course don’t forget to wave to Granny and our festival mascot ‘Sweetie Pie’ and float as they pass by! The best spot to view the parade is on Rowe Street so follow the purple parade route (see map on page 8 and 9) and grab your spot early.
