Can

believe we’re in 2023? I’m looking forward to a fresh new start and with it a jam-packed calendar of local events and

to be celebrated during the first few months of the year.

We hope this Discover Salisbury magazine provides some inspiration on how to make the most of the warmer months with friends and family.

Things worth checking out include the HEXADECA Interactive Light & Sound Experience, which is on display at the Salisbury Community Hub during 16-29 January. The experience, which has previously attracted large crowds at WOMADelaide and Rundle Mall, features spinning pods which you can sit in to activate different musical sounds.

Our Australia Day celebrations are always popular, with a free breakfast to be served at Carisbrooke Park and community displays, amusement rides and activities for kids on offer.

Our Salisbury Fringe Carnival is another major annual attraction. Running during Adelaide Fringe time in February, the carnival offers up great performances, activities and food so you can enjoy a festival experience in your own backyard.

Other exciting events on the radar include Harmony Week celebrations, Saturday Sessions, local fun days and community markets which will be popping up at a number of locations across the City.

It’s also worth checking out the range of programs available all year round at our local Hubs and Libraries.

Please enjoy flipping through this edition of Discover Salisbury and I hope to catch up with you at one of our fabulous events!

A DOG’S

UNLEASH THE FUN THIS SUMMER

The sun is out and it’s time to have a ball with your best mate at one of nine local dog parks just waiting to be sniffed out. Salisbury’s dog-friendly parks make the perfect spots for your furry friend to exercise and socialise off leash in a safe and friendly environment, while you can meet like-minded people.

Council is committed to providing great outdoor spaces for dogs and their owners, with recent additions including a new small dog park at The Paddocks Reserve, which was opened in September last year.

Other small dog only zones, created to ensure our littlest four-legged friends feel at home, are located at Happy Home Reserve, Canterbury Drive and Baltimore Reserve.

All dog parks are enclosed and feature exciting obstacles such as tunnels, hoops and ramps as well as the provision of bags, water and bowls.

The dog parks are also co-located with other popular facilities including walking trails, sporting equipment and playgrounds.

DAY OUT

TOP TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR DOG SAFE AND HAPPY

Before visiting a dog park, make sure your dog has up to date vaccinations, is microchipped, desexed and registered

It is important to only visit dog parks if you are sure your dog is comfortable around other people/ animals. If your dog is a bit shy, it might be a good idea to try it out during a quieter time

Throw a towel in the car in case your pooch gets muddy Keep an eye on your dog at times –you never know what might end up in their mouth or when they could get into trouble

Always clean up after your dog using the bags and bins provided.

St Kilda Adventure Playground Celebrating40Years

Since it opened some four decades ago, St Kilda Adventure Playground has welcomed thousands of families and cemented its reputation as a must-visit playground for children of all ages from across the state.

While the St Kilda Adventure Playground has experienced changes since it was officially opened on 24 October 1982, the precinct’s original identity is still strong 40 years on.

Originally an initiative of the Lions Club of Salisbury, the playground’s construction was made possible through club fundraising, council contributions, and other methods.

Since its official opening, the playground has been carefully maintained and upgraded, with the most recent major upgrade taking place in 2016.

The $3.5 million upgrade saw the installation of new attractions, extra slides, electric barbeques, a basketball court, and a makeover of the Cockle Street entrance.

Considered one of Adelaide’s most popular outdoor playgrounds, families travel from across the City to come to visit the St Kilda Adventure Playground.

The City of Salisbury continues to invest in the area, ensuring that spaces are connected and well maintained in order to be one of the major visitor attractions in the region.

People visiting the nearby Adelaide Tramway Museum can learn about the history of the City’s tramway system, as well as ride historic trams from different parts of Australia.

A two-kilometre track runs between the museum and the St Kilda Adventure playground, linking the two areas together, making it a great location for a family day-out.

St Kilda is one of the many jewels in the City of Salisbury’s crown, and the investment in the precinct has created an attractive natural space for everyone to enjoy.

Why not visit and see for yourself?
