How I Celebrate Life When I look back over my life, I have found many activities I could celebrate and enjoy. During my married life and raising a family, school programs, trips and, homework occupied my time. Summer activities brought baseball, camping, travel, and relaxing at home together. I had a part-time job being a substitute teacher. I could choose when I wanted to work. I was kept busy. When I didn’t want to go, I found the answering machine was a good invention. Now that our two boys have grown and my husband has passed, my activities have changed. Continued on page 2 ‌

I could spend hours reading. There is a Chicken Soup for the Soul book around that hasn’t been read. A crossword puzzle or word search book await my time when I have just a few minutes to relax. The Stoughton Senior Center has two shopping trips a month scheduled to the Madison malls. When we go to East Towne, I could spend hours in the Barnes and Noble Book Store. In our apartment complex there are activities. I enjoy BINGO even though I don’t always win a prize. There are two potlucks a month plus a weekly coffee hour. I haven’t heard anyone complain about the food. We may meet people in the hall, but getting together at one of the events gives us time to relax and catch up on the latest news. The euchre games don’t interest me. I am not now or have ever been a card shark. Continued on page 3…

A part-time job selling Watkins occupies some of my time. The sales are good. I enjoy making the deliveries which gives me a chance to visit with people and enjoy a good cup of coffee. I have had a Watkins booth at a few craft/vendor shows. It is interesting to visit with the people and watch them browsing at some of the different vendor/booths. I am amazed at what people purchase. I have been on a few day trips on a bus with a friend. The most recent outing was the Tresheree near Edgerton. The display of machinery seems to change each year. A flea market is a big attraction. Some of the things being sold are on the rusty side and look like they have outlived their usefulness about twenty years ago. I love hearing other people’s stories at the writing class. Writing family stories is enjoyable for me. I sometimes procrastinate and don’t always sit down and write the story as quickly as I should. I sure hope this class continues. It is an incentive to get my family stories written.
