You know basketball season is almost here when the leaves start turning and the ground is frosted over in the morning. Basketball is a great sport to play if you want to get or stay in shape. Basketball is also a great sport for children to play because it lets them work on a team and on their social skills. Two important things they will need their whole lives. We have basketball programs for both children and adults. The children programs start at the kindergarten age and go through sixth grade. Our basketball program is broken into two different parts, an instruction part and a league part. The instruction part fo-
cuses more on fun activities and the league part focuses more on playing games. We also offer a high school league that has been popular with students who don’t play on sanctioned WIAA teams.
2010 HS League Champs
Both men’s and women’s leagues for adults are offered. Regular men’s leagues are on Sunday evenings, an over 35 men’s league on Monday nights, and a women’s league on Wednesday nights. Basketball information can be found on our website.
Furlough Day Monday The City of Stoughton will be closed on Monday, October 11 for the third of four furlough days. These days were designated as a budget saving plan for 2010. This means that the Recreation Department will not be able to handle any calls or walk-in registrations. We will be back at our posts on Tuesday. The other remaining furlough days are: Thursday, December 23, 2010 (4 hours) Thursday, December 30, 2010 (4 hours)
Upcoming Events Session II of Zumba starts 10/20. Please register soon because space is limited.
The first youth basketball registration deadline is October 15th. Please check to see when the different deadlines are.
Tri-County Boys Basketball sign-up is 10/10 at the SWAC
Coed Volleyball deadline is October 28th.
Youth center Needs Volunteers! The new youth center building is opening very soon. To provide a better experience for the participants we are looking for one to two volunteers each day for two hours. You could choose one day per week from 3:30 to 5:30 PM and help middle school children grow socially and scholastically in our new environment. This is a
great opportunity to share the skills and talents you have accumulated in your life. We welcome anyone from High school age to senior citizen’s. If you are interested in learning more contact Tom Lynch at the Rec Dept. tlynch@ci.stoughton.wi.us 873-6746
