Juneteenth Flag Raising
On June 2, 2023, City Manager Mike Malone joined Vallejo Mayor Robert McConnell along with members of the Vallejo African American Family Reunion Committee to raise the Juneteenth flag in commemoration of Juneteenth, which falls on Monday, June 19, 2023, and marks one of the most important days in our Nation’s History.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day and Emancipation Day, is a holiday or observance in many U.S. states to celebrate the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865. The observance commemorates the day on which Union soldiers, led by General Granger, enforced the Emancipation Proclamation and freed all remaining slaves in Texas. The news was delivered two and a half years after the executive order was effective.
Transportation into and out of Vallejo made easy with Amtrak San Joaquins Route 7 Thruway Bus
Amtrak San Joaquins Thruway Bus is a public transportation service that provides travelers to and from Vallejo with an additional convenient and affordable option. The service travels into and out of Vallejo at the Curtola Park & Ride at 1501 Lemon Street with four daily northbound departures and three southbound departures.
The Thruway bus connects with Amtrak’s larger train and bus network at the Martinez Amtrak station, where travelers can connect with trains serving that connect with destinations across the state.
As part of Amtrak San Joaquins’ Route 7, the Thruway bus service serves Vallejo bus-only tickets to cities along the route, providing an affordable option for transportation throughout the Bay Area and Northern California. Route
7 reaches as far north as Arcata and as far south as Martinez, with 19 convenient stops located throughout the counties of Contra Costa, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, and Humboldt. Buses’ amenities include restrooms, reclining seats, free Wi-Fi, plug-in outlets, and ADA accessible seating.
From Vallejo, southbound buses to Martinez leave daily at 7:00am, 12:40pm, and 4:45pm. Northbound buses leave daily at 10:45am, 2:20pm, 6:00pm, and 7:55pm. The 10:45am bus reaches Route 7’s northernmost destination (Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata) and all stops in between. The 2:20pm bus goes only to Napa, while the 6:00pm and 7:55pm buses run as far north as Santa Rosa.
Tickets must be purchased in advance on AmtrakSanJoaquins.com, on the Amtrak app or website, by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL, or at a staffed Amtrak train station. Bus drivers cannot accept cash or credit cards.

California’s Electric Bicycle Incentive Project
The state Legislature allocated $10 million for California Air Resources Board (CARB) to create an Electric Bicycle Incentives Project to help people afford to purchase electric bicycles.
CARB has chosen San Diego-based nonprofit organization, Pedal Ahead, as the administrator to implement California’s statewide Electric Bicycle Incentive Project. The goal of this project is to encourage electric bicycles as a replacement for in-town car trips by helping low-income Californians afford to purchase e-bikes. Through increased e- bike use, Pedal Ahead is seeing improved air quality and individual health, and low-cost high impact mobility. Possible criteria currently being examined for the program are income eligibility, electric bike types, retail support, educational needs, and other factors.
