Vallejo Urban Forestry Management
In late 2020, the City of Vallejo was honored to have been awarded a grant for $500,000 from the Department of Forestry & Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Urban and Community Forestry Program.
These grant projects are geared towards serving disadvantaged and low-income communities. Projects must also be located in an urban area or urban cluster as defined by the US Census Bureau. Trees play an important role in the health and well-being of human beings. For example, studies show that trees promote mental health, improve air quality, and result in energy savings by offering shade and reducing cooling needs.
On July 20, 2023, the installation of these trees commenced on York Street in association with the Student Conservation Association and kicked off what will eventually be a beautiful revitalization of the sidewalks and urban forest access within the City of Vallejo. For more information on the Urban and Community Forestry Grant Programs, visit the CAL FIRE website.
