Westerville Recognizes National Park and Recreation Month Theme

Each July, for nearly 40 years, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has celebrated Park and Recreation Month. Celebrating strong, vibrant and resilient communities, Park and Recreation Month focuses on empowering communities through local and surrounding parks and recreation.

The month also recognizes the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers — who maintain our country’s local, state and national parks.

This year’s theme – “Where You Belong” – was selected by NRPA to represent the many ways park and recreation professionals across the country foster a sense of belonging in their community by providing welcoming and inclusive programs, essential services for all ages and abilities and safe, accessible spaces to build meaningful connections.

Throughout July, Westerville Parks and Recreation will highlight social activities, parks and trails and other special events for the month of recognition.

Check out the Park and Recreation Month event calendar at www.westerville.org/programs.

Use the hashtag #westervilleparks and share on social media when visiting a City park or trail for a chance to be featured on social channels.
