Sensory Bags Now Available at the Westerville Community Center

The Westerville Parks and Recreation Department has launched a new initiative that allows individuals with sensory processing needs to experience and engage in the Community Center comfortably.

“We know that the Community Center is bustling with activities, filled with various sounds and people,” said Mike Phillips, Recreations and Operations Supervisor for Westerville Parks & Recreation. “We felt it was our responsibility to ensure all patrons could enjoy what it has to offer.”

Sensory bags are designed for all ages. Each bag contains a variety of items including: Noise-canceling headphones, Earplugs, Communication cards, A facility map identifying potentially overwhelming spaces, Fidget toys/tools, Sunglasses

Additionally, special Senior Center bags have been created focusing on senior support items including a fidget lap blanket and weighted neck pillow.
