Get out on the green and take the family to Gahanna Municipal Golf Course or take the outdoor adventure to the next level by bringing the family to Creekside Park for five acres of paddle-boating, fishing and walking the trails. Creativity comes alive in Gahanna at Kym’s Kanvas, with art-filled painting parties and classes. Take art outside with Art Garden Academy and get inspired by the colorful florals. For the art-appreciators, take a trip to Griffin Creekside Gallery to enjoy art without getting messy
and view the rotation of exhibits and artists whose works are displayed throughout the gallery. Outdoor adventurers and green thumbs will love the 160 acres of peaceful ecology at Shepherd’s Corner with agricultural learning experiences for kids and a peaceful meditation trail and labyrinth for serenity seekers. Stop by the Ohio Herb Center and kick off a geocache hunt through Gahanna by downloading a free app – hint: there’s a geocache spot hidden there! Get glowing and take the kids to the mini-golf course Glow Putt LLC, which offers lighted neon courses to put your putt to the test, or visit Lazer Kraze of Gahanna for a fun-filled afternoon with the family which
myuniquegahannastory Julie Predieri, City Forester, Parks and Recreation Department What are some of the ways you identify with the Gahanna community? I identify with the Gahanna community because it is both the town where I grew up and the town where I chose to spend my adult life. The character of Gahanna makes it an ideal place to live. It has a small town feel with all the conveniences of a bigger city. The people here value their homes and neighbors, and I really do feel like people are proud to live here. There are so many people who volunteer their time to make Gahanna a better place, and I don’t think people have that kind of buy-in to every community. What is one thing about Gahanna that people might not realize? A lot of people don’t realize that Gahanna is home to an expansive park system. Our parks have so many amenities such as sports fields, nature preserves, shelters, bike paths, dog parks, kayak ramps, paddling opportunities, pools, an arboretum, and so much more. I remember playing in Gahanna’s parks when I was a kid, and I still use them regularly now with my family. I believe that Gahanna’s outdoor and recreational opportunities are something that set us apart from other communities. What would people be surprised to know about you?
Lazer Kraze of Gahanna
People would be surprised to know that I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the Gahanna Dairy Queen. My parents both grew up in Gahanna and went to school at Gahanna Lincoln. My dad was working at Mifflin Township Fire Department when he would frequent Dairy Queen for firehouse snacks. He noticed my mom working at the store, and the rest is history. I really love ice cream, so I make sure to visit Dairy Queen as often as I can.

In your opinion, what is the best kept secret within the Gahanna community? The best kept secret within the Gahanna community is probably paddling the Big Walnut Creek. Lots of people don’t realize that you can kayak from Woodside Green Park to Pizzuro Park, but it is one of the best ways to experience Gahanna. During my paddling trips, I have seen bald eagles, herons, turtles, and lots of other animals and plants. It is so neat to be on the water in my hometown. Why do you love Gahanna? I love Gahanna because of the people. I have the most amazing coworkers and neighbors, and everybody has so much pride in our community. I love visiting Creekside with my friends, and I love attending Gahanna’s events like Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival. Gahanna is a vibrant, active town, and it’s a really fun place to live.

hen cabin fever’s got you down, the best cure is fresh air. With numerous parks and gardens in Gahanna, there’s plenty to do and see in the great outdoors that will leave you refreshed and reinvigorated.
If a Tree Falls
You may have heard about Gahanna Woods State Nature Preserve, but did you know it is home to the only known population of cypress-knee sedge in Ohio? The park is also host to countless spring wildflowers, towering trees, buttonbrush swamps and vernal pools. With 99 acres and miles of hiking trails, Gahanna Woods is great for birdwatching and enjoying the tranquility of nature.
Man’s Best Friend
Dogs love playing in parks just as much as their human companions. For families with furry friends, Pizzuro Park’s Pooch Playground is the place to be. Inside four fenced-in acres of space for off-leash romping, the park includes a smaller area for pups under 25 pounds plus an agility course for dogs of all sizes.
Up a Creek
Don’t forget your paddle when visiting Friendship and Creekside Parks. From paddleboats to kayak rentals,
Woodside Park
the city’s parks and recreation department provides a fun experience for everyone in the family. Paddleboats can be ridden by families of five or fewer, and the kayak options include single, double and triple riders – although the third rider must be under the age of 11. Creekside Park also offers visitors the opportunity to wade and fish in the shallow
water or stroll alongside the creek on one of the multiple walking paths.
Off the Walls
The adrenaline seeking adventurers and athletes know Shull Park is where it’s at. Open from sunrise to sundown, there’s no lack of things to do: from soccer fields to the in-line hockey rink, 866.424.2662 | VisitGahanna.com

Green thumbs and garden lovers know there’s no place like Geroux Herb Garden. Between the six luscious gardens within, it’s no wonder the garden’s namesake, “Bunnie” Geroux was the impetus for Gahanna’s title as Herb Capital of Ohio. A stroll through the gardens at the Ohio Herb Center is also a must.
All Together Now
Academy Park brings home the gold for largest park in Gahanna. With more than 100 acres, creek fishing and miles of nature trails, this location is perfect for the whole family. The playground is great for kids of all ages, and multiple baseball diamonds and basketball courts make it a favorite for teens.
Picture Perfect
The stunning scenery of Hannah Park along with the large stone shelter house makes it a go-to spot for gatherings like family reunions, school dance photo shoots, sports events and more. It’s easy to get active at the park, too, with tennis and basketball courts available, a playground and walking trails.

unforgettable, participants who earn six stamps can turn their passport in for a one-of-a-kind Herbal Cocktail Trail prize. Most of all, the Herbal Cocktail Trail is about making memories with friends and family in a unique way only Gahanna can offer. For more information, go to VisitGahanna.com.
Herb’n Restaurant Week
Herb’n Restaurant Week brings the fresh flavors of the Herbal Cocktail Trail to a whole new level with herb-inspired and infused meals made by Gahanna’s signature restaurants. Traditionally held the second week of May, also known as Herb Week in Gahanna, Herb’n Restaurant Week celebrates Gahanna’s heritage as Herb Capital of Ohio.
Herbal Fun Facts The banana plant is the largest herb. In fact, anything that doesn’t produce bark is an herb. Simon & Garfunkel’s “Scarborough Fair/Canticle,” which features the lyric, “parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme,” actually dates back to a late-17th century Scottish ballad. Legend has it that Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, wore lavender to freshen her scent. Rosemary has traditional links to faithfulness and marriage, which is why brides traditionally wear wreaths of rosemary. It’s no secret that Italians love using basil in their cooking, but did you know they also believe basil to be a symbol of love?
myuniquegahannastory Amanda Ferguson, Ohio Herb Center Coordinator What are some of the ways in which you identify with the Gahanna community? Living in what was once the Bridgeport community and considered Old Gahanna, I love connecting people to the history of the area. What is one thing about Gahanna that other residents inside (and outside) of Columbus do not realize? Gahanna has the most amazing parks, trail system, and nature preserves. What would people be surprised to know about you? I have lived in Gahanna for over 20 years and live on the same street and same house my husband grew up in. In your opinion, what is the best kept secret within the Gahanna community? Gahanna Woods Nature Preserve. Tucked away, not a lot of people know about it. It is my favorite display of spring ephemerals in our community. Why do you love Gahanna? Living and working here I get to share on a daily basis what makes Gahanna unique and help people explore our wonderful little town.

myuniquegahannastory Tim Courlas, Tim Courlas Video & Photography Describe your very first experience in Gahanna. In 1994 we were moving back to central Ohio. Some friends in Gahanna invited us for dinner. We realized this would be a good place to look for a house. We’ve been here ever since. Why did you select Gahanna to open your business? We’ve lived here for 26 years. I left my job at a local production company in 2014 to start a freelance video and photography business, so Gahanna was the place. I am very proud to be a small part of a vibrant video and photo business community here in Gahanna represented by OhioHD, EclipseCorp, The 5 Stones Group as well as many other freelancers such as myself. In your opinion, what is the best kept secret within the Gahanna community? Probably the Bolt High Speed Motion Controlled Robotic Camera Arm at OhioHD. It’s one of only a handful outside of the coasts. OK, one for people who don’t care about robots – The Chicago Dog at Pam’s Popcorn on Johnstown. Better than I’ve had in Chicago! Why do you love Gahanna?
What’s your favorite thing to do in Gahanna? We love to bike downtown Gahanna and eat at one of the great restaurants, especially outside at Creekside. Photo by Love Emma Photography

With views of Big Walnut Creek plus the opportunity to kayak alongside the concerts, the Creekside District includes both shopping and green space enjoyed by community members year round. New to the Creekside District is the city council approved CORA, or Creekside Outdoor Refreshment Area. Although the CORA will not be in effect during the CBJF, alcohol may still be consumed on festival grounds. For an extended list of things to do, go to www.visitgahanna.com.
The people … and I have almost everything I need right here. Gahanna is ridiculously conveniently located. There are very few places in metros this size with the kind of accessibility Gahanna affords. I travel for work and a 10-minute drive to the airport is a fantastic amenity.
What’s your favorite place to visit in Gahanna? One favorite? Impossible. Why do you like living here? In a word – comfort. It sounds corny but Gahanna is like your favorite vintage sweatshirt you can’t wait to get home and change into.

Winter Holiday Celebrations
T
here’s nowhere like Gahanna for the holidays. With so many joyful activities and events to choose from, there are a multitude of ways to make memories! The season kicks off with the annual Holiday Lights Celebration, held the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The event features family-friendly festivities from horse-drawn carriage and train rides to a petting zoo and shopping along the Creekside District for holidays gifts. The day concludes with the arrival of Santa Claus, a tree lighting and a magical fireworks display. To prepare for the sweet treats and great eats that often accompany the holidays, sign the family up for the jolly Santa Race 5K and Lil’ Reindeer Dash which occurs in the beginning of December. The entirety of the Creekside District will be taken over with Santa’s helpers dashing

through the city’s parks and trails. Dashers receive a medal, t-shirt and fun holiday hat upon completion of the race and can run alongside Santa during the pre-race warm-up. The Ohio Herb Center is turned into a winter wonderland for the holidays with visits from Santa and the opportunity to take memorable photos with the jolly old elf. Kids will love the make-and-take crafts for an extra special holiday memory. Visitors, residents and guests can get into the holiday spirit by taking in thousands of beautiful lights that illuminate the Creekside District throughout the season. To add to the display, luminaries fill Creekside Park for one special evening in December during the Creekside Luminary Walk. For a detailed schedule of times and events, go to visitgahanna.com or call 614.418.9114.

Between the multiple participating establishments within the CORA boundaries, guests can take their CORA beverages outdoors to enjoy in the fresh air. From frozen margs at Local Cantina Creekside to a refreshing beer from Nostalgia Brewing Co., the adult beverages can even be taken into Creekside Park within the designated CORA area. Plus, in the

Noble Cut Distillery
myuniquegahannastory Anthony “Sizzle” Perry Jr., CEO of Crafted Culture Brewing Why did you select Gahanna to open your business? I did not choose Gahanna. Gahanna chose me. I was looking for a location in East Columbus when Victor Ecimovich, Head Brewer at Edison Brewing Company, called me about the Kindred space being available and invited us to be his neighbor What are some of the ways you identify with the Gahanna community? I identify with the Gahanna community because I grew up here. My Nana and Papa moved here while I was in middle school. I spent my summer nights playing basketball at Academy Park. What is one thing about Gahanna that people might not realize? It seems to me that a lot of people do not realize how big of a melting pot Gahanna is culturally. Even when I was in high school. Sure, there weren’t many other Black students, but there were a lot of other races, religions and cultures walking those halls. What is one thing about Gahanna that people might not realize? One of the best-kept secrets in the Gahanna community is the number of Black-owned businesses in the area. Not just us, but there’s Stadium, Upper Cup, SuperChef’s, Ice Cream Rollery, The Nail Spa, and I know they just moved to Westerville but Just My Style was one of my favorite places to get shoes. Why do you love Gahanna? I love Gahanna because it’s more like a person than a city. I have watched it grow. I have seen it fail and succeed. It’s constantly evolving. When I was away, it took care of my family and many of my friends too. Where is your favorite place to go in Gahanna? My favorite place to visit is a tie between Nana’s house and Crafted Culture Brewing. Both places feel like family when I walk in.
