President’s Welcome

As President of City, University of London. I am very much looking forward to welcoming you to City, should you decide to join us. You have an important choice to make: we are a fiercely ambitious institution focussed on developing your skills and knowledge and committed to helping you realise your aspirations. City is looking for a certain kind of student – one who is committed to, and prepared to ‘own their future’. We are building a sharply distinctive professional university and in joining us, you will be a key part of that journey. City is for everyone but not for anyone … we will challenge you. We will push you to be the best you can be. We will hold you to exacting and demanding standards if we are to send you out as a future professional and City graduate. This challenge is part of our offer to you. We will ask that you challenge us too – ask questions, demand answers, expect rigour. We will provide you with superb educational offerings that are globally distinctive and support you to achieve your personal goals. Our connections to business and the professions and our location in the global city of London are at the heart of what makes City unique. London is one of the greatest cities in the world and while a student at City, you will be able to take advantage of its culture, history, intellectual and sporting life. With over 160 student nationalities, City is a place that is welcoming. We have dedicated services to support you from the moment you apply to long after you graduate. Our excellent Student Centre helps ensure our students make the most of their time with us, from providing academic and financial advice to supporting their wellbeing. Our international partnerships offer unique opportunities to study abroad and our research with universities around the world continues to have a lasting societal impact. Our commitment to the career prospects of our students is one of our distinguishing characteristics and includes our renowned Micro-Placement Programme. We are working to make City the best place to study, teach, learn and research. We want you to go out and get great jobs. And we want to make a difference – to our students and to the world around us. I hope that you will feel ready to be part of this exciting next chapter for City and if so, I look forward to meeting you in the months to come.
