The First Farewell Tour: From Legend To Leg End!
Mary Coughlan Mary’s smoky, bluesy, boozy drawl has always been a seduction, this is why she is so loved. Throughout her quite extraordinary recording career spanning more than a quarter of a century, Mary has drawn heavily from vocal stylings of her legendary heroes; Billie Holliday, Peggy Lee, Van Morrison and Edith Piaf – all are present and correct in her delivery. Even so, Mary, with her naked honesty makes every song her own and audiences cannot fail to be moved by her passionate live performances.
This legendary, singer-songwriter, known for chart-topping hits Ariel, Lucky Stars, Lydia and Woman Of Mine – performs songs from throughout his three-decade career. Join Friedman for an evening of powerful, poignant, hilarious songs about the ordinary and extraordinary lives we share.

There’s a beast on the moors, a crime to be solved, and with the Ha Ha team on the case – what can go right?! You’d be absolutely barking mad to miss this pipe-smoking, new show from theatre’s funniest parodists as Holmes and Watson embark on their most dangerous adventure yet... hunting down The Hound of The Baskervilles. It’s elementary! It’s also downright hilarious as comedic national treasure Joe Pasquale takes on the role of Sherlock Holmes bringing mirthful merriment to the proceedings… but will he be skating on thin ice? With writer Ben Langley as Doctor Watson and Andrew Fettes as everyone else, this sure-fire, wonderfully ridiculous show is well worth an investigation.
Geno Washington is still the number one sixties soul man, the real deal… enjoying enduring cult status on the Blues and Northern Soul scenes mainly due to his unsurpassable reputation as a live performer. Join Geno and the Yo Yos – featuring Geno’s half of the Ram Jam Band – as they play a blistering set of pared-down Street Soul, R&B, House Rockin’ Blues, Jump, Boogie and Rock‘n’Roll.

Cara Dillon Cara Dillon has one of those rare talents you only come across a handful of times in your whole life. Her staggeringly beautiful voice has the ability to reach inside the soul of a song and imbue material with not only profound sweetness but also poignancy and depth. Whether she’s singing her native traditional songs of lost love and emigration, or her original compositions, you will be hard pressed to find a more emotive and captivating performer. This tour will showcase songs on her new album due for release in October.

Three Bonzos & A Piano The Bonzos have appeared with members of Monty Python, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, The Kinks and The Who as well as having a top 5 hit with Urban Spaceman. They featured as the house band on Do Not Adjust Your Set, a fore-runner of Monty Python, and superstar comedians, Stephen Fry, Adrian Edmondson, Eddie Izzard, Chris Morris and Bill Bailey have all named the Bonzos as a formative influence. Their anarchic live appearances are the stuff of legend – don’t miss out. threebonzosandapiano.co.uk

The Bad Shepherds play punk and new wave songs on folk instruments. Not as a gag… but because they really like the noise. They think the songs are better than people remember. They love folk instruments. It works. They’ve mostly given the songs a kind of Celtic feel, and they’ve stuck in the odd reel and jig here and there... but occasionally, they just thrash!

Founded in 1988, and registered as an independent charitable organisation, The Friends have campaigned tirelessly over the years to fund the essential upkeep of the Varieties. Events & Hospitality The Jimi Heselden Auditorium and other spaces within the City Varieties are available for private hire to host your meeting, conference or other event.* Or make your theatre visit even more memorable with intimate post show drinks and canapés for your friends, family, colleagues and clients. In addition to the £175,000 which the Friends have donated toward the recent refurbishment, their efforts over the years have also provided the venue with replacement auditorium seats, heating for the bars and hot drinks machines. These funds have been raised through activities such as street markets, cash collections, fair stalls, charity performances, dining events and the operation of city centre charity shops. Their social events regularly include luncheons, quizzes, garden parties, theatre, museum and cinema visits as well as ‘sail and shop’ trips to the continent. Coffee Mornings are regularly held in the historic Friends’ Circle Bar, where walls are adorned with Music Hall memorabilia.
