ROAD TRIP Last Minute Search by Brad Jacobson

Looking up at Rincon from the 101 freeway

Friday, January 27th was suppose to be a good to great day here in the

South Bay. We had waves earlier in the week and Friday was to be no exception. Reports had this as the biggest day of the week long swell. I woke up early in antisipation that there was going to be waves. I was expecting to check my phone and read text telling me how good all the spots were across the South Bay

...instead I got dissapointment. The winds were all wrong and killed every spot in the South Bay. I sat at the Breakwall with a few locals discussing the winds and wondering if it was all going to turn around within an

hour.

A half hour went by and nothing had changed. Chris Brown (CB) and Chris Frohoff were north, saying that it looked like it was going to get good once the winds turned around.

CB is wired with wind and swell direction knowledge. I had to make a decision. Stay and hope or travel and trust. Another south bay photographer, Ken Pagliaro, was with me at the Breakwall as I was running through the options. “There are some cool angles we could try at Rincon. The winning reason was that the drive would give the wind a chance to turn around.

Rincon could be epic by the

Hopefully next time we’ll get
