Is It Time To Head South For The Summer?

From The Editor:

M

aking this issue was not as easy as the last few. April didn’t give us much to work with. Only a few days reached head high, and when it did the wind was usually blowing hard onshore.

Luckily we had some great events. The Surf Film Fest, The Jimmy Miller Foundations ‘ Wounded Warrior Program and the second annual “Dig 4 Jimmy” kept the “stoke” running through a rather dismal month. Now that May is here and the South Bay normally hibernates, we will be taking trips down South with some of the South Bay’s best surfers. We also have a few events upcoming including the “2010-2011 Winter Surf Awards”. This event will crown the “Surfer of the Winter” as well as best maneuver, best barrel and best wave. The event will include an action pictorial video feature sequesnces from the winter. We will be announcing the detalis and dates soon on our website www.civiccouch.com or our facebook page . Gabriel Medina turned in a perfect 20 point heat at the King of Groms event in France. Watching him launch and land airs all morning I now understand why he is ranked 9th on Surfer Magazine’s “hot 100”.

This years Dig 4 Jimmy took place May 1st on the South Side of the Manhattan Beach Pier. Surfing and volleyball are two of most famous “south bay” activities and are integral to two great non-profit foundations (The Jimmy Miller Foundation and Dig 4 Kids) in our community and the high school friends who inspired the creation of each foundation.
