US O PEN OF SURFING

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA

On The Cover: Yadin Nicol Flies his way to the finals CIVIC 2 COUCH Photo Credit: Jacobson

Spending a week in huntington. Wan Hernandez, Mike Pagan, Alex Shea, Reuben Pascual and myself made our way down to the pier on Tues. August 2nd with a game plan for our coverage; who to interview, where to shoot from, who was shooting action and who was covering lifestyle etc. It was all thrown out by noon. The US Open at 9am on Tuesday is misleading. The beach is basically empty, there are only a handful of photographers , the pro’s are easily accessible and getting from the strand to the water is simple. We started off on a roll! By mid-day the beach is swarming with people. Each pro is horded with autograph/picture seeking fans as they exit the water. People are hearding through the exhibit area searching for freebies and the opposite sex. Our organized team was now scattered throughout the beach. Come Sunday the crowd attendance record was shattered. Photographers were forced to shoot in knee-waist high water from the crowd surges and we were prepared from a week full of practice. Thanks to the full Civic Couch team for working hard to cover this beachside circus. Check out our facebook page to view our full video and photo coverage from the entire event.
