Complete Streets

COMPLETE STREETS “ It is difficult to design a space that will not attract people. What is remarkable is how often this has been accomplished.” William H. Whyte “ People have always lived on streets. They have been the places where children first learned about the world, where neighbours met, the social centers of towns and cities.” Donald Appleyard Many of our streets are too heavily focused on maximizing vehicular throughput. This fails to consider how pedestrians, cyclists and transit-users can improve the total capacity of our streets. Streets are more than just car corridors, they are valuable civic spaces and resources that need to be wisely allocated. Improving these public spaces is the simplest way to improve the quality of life for all. We have been involved in delivering a number of high street and public realm projects across the UK. The investment in these spaces has proven to pay large dividends for the people and places where they have been implemented. Many of these schemes have been used as best practice exemplars to inform national guidance, and have won numerous awards for placemaking, urban design, highways and transportation. Here is a small selection of our completed schemes, highlighting some of their benefits.
