Life is full of be ginnings. They occur every day and every hour to every per_ son. Loving, gentle, kind, unselfish, understanding, and pure thoughts are right b eginnings , leading to beautiful results . This i s so simple and clear, so plain, so absolutely true; and y et how neglected, evade d, and little under_ stood! But m a n c an only be a joy to him self and a blessing to others in the me asur e that he has command of him_ self. And such self command is gained only b e persistent practice. That practic e i ssue s real results . And I know those results were manifest e d in one peaceful woman we knew as Theresa Lauric e lla, "My idealism," she wrote one day , "leads me to wa nt to do so much for students ( whom I care for deeply) __ and when ' they are irre sponsible or im_ matur e (e.g. make e xcuses for them_ selves, rather than accepting their share of responsibility in failure), I feel I have failed. In other words, my ideal is to leave each girl a little b e tter for having had me. My realistic side (which normally prevails) says I'm not so wonderful that I have something to give to each girl but should do what I can for those I can reach and hope som e _ one e lse reache s the 'leftovers ." On a Saturday evening in late October, ]ulielme girls brought their fathers to the annual Father-Daughter Dance, sponsored by Student Council. The dance was held in the gym . They danced to the music of The Saum Brothers' Orchestra, and when they got tired of dancing, they found refreshments in the cafeteri a . Conversations, renewing old friendships, beer can p yramids, and the bunn y hop were all part of the festive evening. Miss I(aren Kleckner was the debutante of the evenin g . Then the moment everyone had been waiting for arri ved . The identity of the king was revealed. The Sugar Daddy was ivlr . MoedeI' who was attendin g the dance w ith three of his dau ghters, ivlargaret, Kathy, and] ane . The attendants were Debbie Koeni g and her father and Mary Thacker and her father.

This year, the Nationa l The ater Company presented two fantastic shows at Julienne. Both starred Lorice Stevens and George Tipton. They performed "Lincoln, Kennedy and King" and "The Gospel According to ••• collections of songs and wisdom delivered with a style and wit much appreciated by the students.

This year 's language banquet featured a wide array of delicious foreign food and charming guests from the Amity Aide program and the American Field Service. Julienne was fortunate to have the services of Patrick, Monika, Ana Marie, Clemencia and Eugene for the year. They assisted in the t eaching of languages. The banquet was held in their honor and it proved to be a successful evening for everyone • • • the food was great • . . just ask Debbie Donahue!

Foreign Language Language this year took a new twist. It is sti ll French, German, Spanish and Latin. Instead of the traditional teaching method of one teacher lecturing to 30 students, the student took the responsibility of conquering a foreign l anguage on her (his) own. It wasn't complete independence. Amity aids helped the students learn. Monika came from Switzerland, Patrick from Belguim. Ana i'vlaria was from Uruguay. Eugene was from France. Clemencia came from Columbia. i'vliss Horvath was the moderator for this new program.

The first Si sters of No tre D ame de Nam ur arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 1, 1840 . By 1849 , th e first house of the Sisters was ope n in D ayton , Ohio. Parochal g r ade schools and the Notr e D ame Academ y , located at th e corner of Fr anklin and Ludlow Sts., were established , Th e a cademy g r ad uated 383 gir l s between the years of 1890 and 1927 . The c ornerston e for Villa Julienne was l aid in Novemb er , 1925, A b out 550 g irls wer e enrolled in the fir st year and 65 g irls c omposed the fir st grad u a ting class in 1928 . The school building was awarded a special citati on for its architectme in 1928, In 1960, , a wi ng w ith four classrooms on th e second floor was added to the south side of the cafeteria, The chape l was remode l ed as was the wh o le first floor . Th e parking lot was sold in 1966 and a section of l and facing Forest Ave nue went i n 1968, As of thi s year, 7,836 gir l s have graduated from Julienne Hig h Sch oo l. In October, 1972, word came out that a new school wo uld be formed by merging a ll- boy Chaminade and all-girl Julienne and it wo uld b e called C h aminade- Julienne or C- J . The Alumnae of Julienne held a banquet and reunion in lvla y of 1973. It began with a benediction in the a uditorium. The kneelers that are use during assem blies to prop feet upon were finally used for kneeling . Everyone then congregated in the cafeteria to talk about the past, present, and future. People saw friends which the y had not seen in many years. A fantastic dinner was served. A toast was given to Julienne. Toast are only proper with champagne but the youngsters in the class of '73 had to toast with punch. Glee Club members entertained with songs of the past. Fina lly Jill Adam accepted the pledge for the class of 1973 as alumnae.

The rain did not dampen the spirit of this year 's Mother-Daughter tea. Talking circles were spread throughout the cafeteria with mothers making friends and members of the class of '73 seeing their friends for the upteenth time. Naturally, for a Mother-Daughter tea punch, cookies and t ea were served. Everyone had a jolly good time.

"Gypsy " is about a pushy, fame seeking mother who pressures her two daughters into being stars in Vaudeville. As her Shirley Temple type daughter, June, runs out on her, she tries to make her awkward daughter Louise into a star. By the prodding of her mother and an accidental booking, Louise becomes the famous Gypsy Rose Lee. Rose was play ed by Jeanne Wilber, Louise by Debbie Walter, Baby June b y Lyn Kramer, Herbie by Mark Corcoran and Tulsa by Gerry King. Two other "big" stars were Caroline the Cow, play ed by Mary Thacker and Annette Couture, and "Mindy" the sheep.

Chaminade's final Memorial Hall Spring Concert was held on May 17, 1973. Julienne and St. Joseph Glee Clubs were invited to perform also. Miss Rose Gysbers directed Julienne while Mr. Eifert directed St. Joseph's Glee Club. Brother Bruce Griffin conducted Chaminade's symphonic band; Brother Jim Pera was in charge of Chaminade's Glee Club . The
Chaminade Jazz Lab band was led by Mr. Quatman. Greg Tantum from WING was Master of Cere monies. Music ranged from "Sabbath Prayer" ... "Impossible Dream" . .. "Sailor's Alleluia" . . . "One Tin Soldier" ... to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic. "

Celebration
The 1973 Julienne graduation exercise was the finale for the close of the year. 168 seniors received what they had struggled for since 1969. Reverend Pointer distributed the certified diplomas to the graduates blessed by Father MacDonald. Of course as tradition states the senior class president could choose rather or not to give a speech. Jill Adam, 1973 senior class president gave a brief but moving speech to her classmates . An alumnae, Mary Leonard Kramer explained to the graduates the benefits Julienne has given them. A special tribute by the audience was given to the graduates in the form of a standing ovation. Tears, joy and relief followed.
