This is a drawing with many sides. Technically speaking, there are many materials: the glossy reflective hood of the truck, the snow, and the flat black road. Also, one side is the driver looking back at himself and at his body walking into the barely visible snow-covered hills.

This performance building is located at the top of the long green strip on the University of Idaho campus and this building acts as its terminus. The plaza/lobby is formed by a large circular wall to welcome the users and end the green strip visually. The hallway is yet a continuation of this axis with all the spaces off of it. The rehearsal rooms are spaced apart to allow daylight into the hallway and provide nooks for student art work to be displayed.

With a large water feature in the front courtyard to cool the plaza, shading to block direct sunlight, and outdoor concert seating built into the hillside, this building provides all the comfort and lingering amenities need.

Many things become more and more stunning as they age. In this case, the cracks in the paint from sun-exposure, the tarnish of the brass, and the darkening of the ivory only make this piano more interesting. A story can be construed giving meaning to a beautiful thing. That was the goal of this project; to achieve the depth and ware in the materials, especially in the black paint. Another important goal was the setting; it evokes the feeling of intimacy a pianist has with the instrument. Just the keys and the player.

Facade redesign of an art gallery in Moscow, Idaho. Threedimensional modelling in Autodesk Architecture was used to model the redesign and generate the floor plans. The model was then taken into 3DS Max to create photorealistic renderings.

The firestation and the brave men inside are icons and heros of the world. The goal was to create both an icon and an efficient building in respect to the honor of the firefighters. This building was designed using CMU block per requirements of the competition. There are two main means of circulation on this site: that of the firetruck and of the fireman. The siteplan was organized where the two arcs of circulation meet where one enters the site and one exits. There is a natural pivot point with this organization at which the
main staircase is located for the firemen to quickly reach the vehicles. Starting at the main enterance, the building increases in height up to the fire tower pointing upward over the overpass adjacent to the site giving the building a sense of rhythm and motion. This design method allows for several clerestories along the hallway and in several office and dwelling spaces.

All that remains are the old buildings and pollutants from a demanding and harsh industrial operation. Now, with this site and Moscow’s creek in dissaray, this design aims to mitigate and clean the polluted creek, as well as educate people about the techniques used and how they can, themselves, start doing their part to come back “down to Earth. It is a learning and teaching facility that provides an engaging experience for our mind thus encouraging a more respectful interaction with our surroundings.
The integration of the Earth and built environments is abundant. Runoff from the streets is directed into bioswales which cleans the liquid and during times of flooding, there are several overflow swales. Roof runoff is collected in 4 large cisterns and filtered through a living machine. An onsite public garden is also available for local use.

A quick house design was created to make an accurate scale model of a typical home. This one has vaulted ceilings and all the layers of a wood light frame building: the vapor barriers, drywall, and insulation.

The 2to3 chair is exactly what the name implies. This chair is built from a flat 30x30 sheet of plywood to create this 3-dimensional form. It is also design to suit a 2 to 3 year old child.

Passive techniques include: cross and stack ventilation, a large full height brick trombe wall for heating, and a sun space at the rear entrance.
As seen in the elevation, there are many Southern apertures to bring in the most heat and sunlight while the North side has very few to minimize heat loss through the windows.

The initial basis for the Trifold Chair came from the realization The acrylic seat gives two sensations of floating: it floats of the banana’s structure that it’s skin and core are weak above the rest of the chair, and gives the illusion that one apart from eachother, yet when they are still one entity the floats when sitting in the chair. banana is firm. The wood ribs and steel frame of this chair act in exactly the same way.

Bridging Communities-mixed use buildings: Sketchup rendered in Artlantis
10 This group of buildings is part of the browns field revitalization project. Adjacent is an 8 story grain silo that is being preserved that defines Moscow, Idaho and its skyline. The biggest of these 3 buildings is a mixed-use building with storefront on the main floor, and apartments and offices on the upper 7 floors.
Bridging Communities-mixed use buildings: Sketchup rendered in Artlantis
10 Physical models were made of all the different students buildings and set into one master site plan that was cut by a CNC machine. The final master plan was then presented to the Moscow City Council.
