Central, the heart of the Victoria City, is a place with transit itself as its destination. As history there are full of instances where place is constantly shifting, you may not sure of what the city is being hand over, whether it is the place itself or its sovereignty, knowledge, fantasy, or memory. However, Aldo Rossi, a well renowned architecture theorist, suggests a way to reorganize a place by considering city itself is the locus of the collective memory. If so, by understanding the development of a city, it could be a way to reveal parts of the collective memory of a place.

To serve as the content of the Archive, we propose a giant house that could open up and explore the multiplicity. A storehouse in the very idea recording both the government perspective and public reaction to the development of the Victoria City, is made accessible in different ways. It allows the visitors to walk along the archive, to embark on an obsessive quest, wander around with multi layers of narrative in mind in order to generate a new interpretation on the sense of city collective memory.

COM PE TI TI ON E NTRY FO R P RECIO US GRO UP LEARNING CENTRE COND I TI ON/COM MUNITY: DESIGN + MAKE A LEARNING CENTER PE TE R FE R R E TTO FANL I NG , NE W TE RRITO RIES
Nowadays, people always live in high speed live tempo and und high pressure,so we aim that the design for this learning centre can provide not only a learningspace but also a healing and reflective space for people. As a transition located between the farm land and the spiritual garden, the learning centre make layers in the process of cooking in the architectural way. People get raw material from the farmland, processing it in the kitchen, share and enjoy it in the hall and finally they rest and reflect them selves when sitting in the corridor facing the spiritual garden. Different activities in the different layers of the learning centre try to push people to reflect and respect in the process of learning and farming. The highlight of the project is experienced through the layers as it frames certain experience at different moments. These layers respond to the context surrounding them with varying levels of activity and interaction. The entrance to the building is accessed through the south by the farm. It is introduced by a low pitched roof followed by a row of timber columns that are spaced evenly across the faรงade. The first layer responds to the farm as it is where the kitchen space is located allowing direct interaction between the production of food and the making of it.

06. THE DUAL CITY : BERLIN PR OJ ECT: Tu t o r :
CUAAA TR AVE L L I NG SC HOLARSH IP DRA WING EX H IBITIO N PATR I C K HWANG
Yasuhiro Teramatsu writes how our fascination with the city “stems from the way it continually changes to reflect the current age, even while preserving the memory of past glories and tragedies and the complexities of its positive and negative legacies.” In contemporary Berlin, symbolic architecture and urban spaces that had been lost to the war and its aftermath are being restored and revitalised as crucial pieces of the urban fabric. The Buildings, in Berlin, tend not to be just buildings. They are manifestos, propaganda, memorials, battlefields. It is the city, whose Wall (Berlin) was one of the most political works of architecture of all time. The confrontation of superpowers was condensed into Berlin’s urban form, and the apartment blocks in the old eastern and western halves are imprinted with competing ideologies. From a spectrum of selected projects, the exhibition discusses how change has impacted the city with regard to both its heritage and modernity- A Dural City: Berlin.

SD 45 62 D E SI G N STUDIO G E R HAR D B R U Y NS M E I LU N STR E E T, SH EUNG WA N
This project proposes to build a Chinese culture school and design centre in Mei Lun Street, Sheung Wan. In designing museum interpretating modern Chinese, it is necessary to pay superical attention to try overcoming the superfical conflict between modernity and local tradition in order to reconnect the time between the modern day and the past as well as the memories of everyday life. Inspired by the traditional Chinese living, small courtyards, corner and under eave ares are re-interpreted in a modern way which provides a place for all students and visitor to learn, to gather, to explore to the atmospher to traditional Chinese bodily experience. The narratives created in their architecture forms and the particularity of materials used point towards a desire to follow the traditional Chinese interest, which the words “interest always points to the relationship of human and nature.

2 01 7 B I - C I TY B I E NNALE O F URBANISM-ARCH ITECTURE (SH ENZH EN) STU D I O ME HH + STICKYLINE
This is an experimental collaboration between the designers Michael Leong and Soliworm Lai (both are the members of the local creative group Stickyline), and the architect Wyan Yeung, which is an indoor art installation project consisting of lightweight paper folding stools. The participating team is made up of local product designers and architect. The team members believe that the definition of “HK City Smart” is “elasticity”, “flexibility” and “variability”, and the folding stool is a symbolic object. We use concept and convert it into more flexible and lighter art piece, make it by paper one a one-to-one scale. Because of its lightness, we can quickly put a lot of finished products together, so that it can be placed in different exhibition space as an art installation and on feature walls.

2 01 7 B I - C I TY B I E NNALE O F URBANISM-ARCH ITECTURE (SH ENZH EN) STU D I O M E HH
The investigation focuses on two cities; Birmingham, United Kingdom and Shenzhen, China. The selected buildings are a record of significant buildings, factories, and offices which have established and supported vast communities, affecting the way we experience the city. Monumentalising and celebrating these gives an opportunity to pause and reflect on the provenance of the city as well as the mosaic created by the forces of industry and commerce, to understand a little more the flux of the city, its residents, its culture and its legacy. “BHxSZ” is a series of buildings chosen to investigate the relationships between industrial change and the built environment. The investigation focuses on two cities; Birmingham, United Kingdom and Shenzhen, China. On the surface they can be seen as total opposites; in size, population, density and urban fabric but operate within similar thresholds, as feeder cities to adjacent urban metropolis’ with an important but subdued international role.
