How to Use Keyword Density Effectively The purpose of keywords is to link to related searches typed in the search engine search box. This means that it is essential for your website’s use of keywords be most attractive and related to drive traffic to you site. Techniques to help you in choosing your keywords are keyword competition analysis and the number of monthly searches for that keyword. Keyword Density Keyword density is the amount of times the keyword shows up in a website’s page. You have to keep in mind, to never over use keywords, but use them just enough to show up in important places. Keyword density is always articulated as a percentage of a website’s page total word count. The keyword density's rule of thumb to get accepted by search engines is 3% to 5% - never exceed it. As an example, if you have a web page that has a total word count of 100 and you use your keyword five times within the content, the keyword density on that page is calculated by simply dividing the total number of keywords, by the total number of words that appear on your web page. So that would be 5 divided by 100 = .05 which is five percent. This rule applies to a set of keywords that relates to a different product or service and to every page on your site. Avoid Abusing Keyword Density Avoid repeating your keywords with every other word on every line, because your website will most likely be rejected and labeled as a spam or an artificial site.  Relevant. Only use relevant keywords that are related to your topic or market by taking in account on how users would search for you.  Long-tail Keywords. You can maintain relevance by using long-tail keywords.
