planner

The Countdown

6 weeks to go

Declutter your home and deep clean. Start writing the odd christmas card to save time come December. Start making gifts. List holiday baked goods to make and give. Estimate number of baked items needed for the season.

4 weeks to go

5 weeks to go

Clean out the freezer! Start baking and freezing gingerbread. Make the christmas pudding. If changing the decor, start to make a plan.

3 weeks to go

Dig out the Christmas decorations and organise boxes. Donate old items you don’t want, or sell for a little extra festive cash! Write and send Christmas cards. Decorate your home!

Plan the Christmas menus and the Party.

2 weeks to go

1 week to go

Finish the Christmas shopping and start wrapping gifts. Make a comprehensive food list, so it’s ready for the big shop.

Go food shopping armed with a list of everything you’ll need. Try not to get distracted so you don’t overspend and reduces the chance of over indulging unnecessarily. Don’t forget the last post 5 days before the big day.

December 23rd

December 24th

Set aside time to finish wrapping gifts. Time for family. Polish silverware and make the table for Christmas Day. Tidy everything, take photos of your family with the tree!

Use familiar recipes to avoid any catastrophes. Buy any essential items and non perishables.

Prepare your food for the Christmas Dinner. Defrosting the turkey and preparing the vegetables now means you’ll have one less thing to do tomorrow. Relax the night before.

Last Minute Cleaning 1. Put on your favorite music. Being in a good mood makes cleaning a lot more enjoyable. Enlist any help that you can. 2. Do the laundry. Pack the dishwasher. Pull the rubbish bin out and set it on the floor so you have easy access to it. Then, run a sink full of hot, soapy water. If you come across rubbish or food scraps, place them straight into the bin. Place recycling to one side. If you come across dirty dishes, put them next to the sink. Make your way through the dishes. If they can go in the dishwasher, give them a quick dip in the water and then place them straight into the dishwasher. If they can’t, wash them by hand and then set them aside to dry on your drying rack. Wipe down the surfaces and take out the rubbish and recycling. 3. Go to all of the toilets in your house and sprinkle in a bit of baking soda and then add about 1/4 cup white vinegar to the bowl. Let it sit for awhile (we’ll get back to the toilets later). 4. Now, grab a cloth and some surface spray and give your vanity and sink a onceover. Pay special attention to your sink as it can get clogged up with toothpaste that hasn’t been rinsed properly. Once everything looks neat and tidy, lay out clean hand towels for your guests, and make sure there is spare toilet paper readily accessible for anyone who needs it. 5. Grab an empty laundry basket and go around to the major rooms in your house. It’s hidey up time! Use the basket to gather items and then tidy them away where they belong. 6. Do a quick vacuum of any major carpeted areas in your home. Don’t worry about a deep vacuuming session. Try to do that at the beginning of December. 7. Do a quick sweep of the kitchen and dining room, gather, tidy, wipe surfaces. 8. Use hot water and a mop to do a quick spot clean up. 9. Grab cleaning supplies and clean all the surfaces in your home. 10.Finally, back to the toilets. Give them a quick scrub and flush. 11. Go make some tea and relax.
