Welcome Welcome to my interior design portfolio. The following pages showcase projects that I completed during my interior design diploma program from January 2020 to June 2021. Each project involved programming, space planning, concept development, materials selections, specifications preparation and final modeling and rendering. I have developed design concepts and details to meet each client’s particular vision and objectives. I thoroughly enjoyed delving into the creative and technical processes and I am excited to share samples of each project. Thank you for visiting.

About
Claire While new to the design world, I have a professional background in marketing and a Bachelor’s of Commerce degree from Queen’s University. After working as a Marketing Coordinator and a Commercial Insurance Advisor for a total of five years, I made the decision to go back to school for interior design. Design and style have been life-long passions for me. Growing up in a small townhouse in Kitsilano I leaned the importance of design from the perspectives of functionality and efficiency and how important style can be in to creating a satisfying, livable environment. I am an energetic self-starter who enjoys working on a team. I’m reliable, conscientious and organized. I hope to grow as a designer while adding value to a team and clients. With my formal education, work experience, world-travels, and local Vancouver roots, my diverse background is evident in my design concepts.

Design Concept The objective of this commercial design project was to create a new international location for a fashion retailer that encapsulated the brand’s identity, while bringing a fresh design sensibility. I chose Rebecca Minkoff as the fashion brand with a proposed new location in Sydney, Australia’s Haymarket District. Rebecca Minkoff’s fashion aesthetic is urban, professional with a quirky playful edge. She has two US locations – one in LA, one in her home city of New York, and eight international locations, the majority of which are in Asia. The design concept is inspired by Rebecca

Minkoff’s signature studded leather bags and jackets. The design concept uses the qualities of a leather stud to add an edge to a professional urban environment: the geometric shape of a stud, its reflective qualities, repeating patterns, and linear alignment, provide inspiration for the architectural details of the space. A feature installation of 3D rhomboidal structure as a feature installation to draw in Sydney urbanites. Moreover, dynamic pendant installations, vertical wood detailing, terrazzo flooring, and bold stone choices, bring to life the edgy feminine style while not overshadowing the products.

Haymarket District
Location The chosen retail location is in the Haymarket district of Sydney, which is an upscale shopping area close to the business district of downtown Sydney and the tourist area of the Harbor Quay. Local Retailers Nearby retailers include Tiffany & Co., Bally, Lululemon, Nine West, Country Road, and Zara. Demographics The largest age demographic in the city is 18-to-34-year old’s, making up over 50% of the residents, with a median age of 32. The average weekly income is $1,915. The downtown area is home to 125,000 residents and, on any given day, there is an average of 629,000 visitors and students in the area. Local Architecture The local architecture is a mix of heritage buildings and new construction. The store is on the ground floor of a corner heritage building. The contemporary architecture of the ground-floor retail location juxtaposes the classical architecture in the building’s upper floors, creating a dynamic exterior facade.

Rendered Furniture Plan
front-of-house
back-of-house
The rendered floor plan shows how the floor materials help wayfinding and to create zones for different product displays.
The majority of the floor in the front-of-house comprises a porcelain tile in a light oak colour and herringbone pattern. The cash, wrap, and display area, and the changing rooms, feature a terrazzo tile with larger stone details. The purse, clothing and shoe displays similarly use a terrazzo floor tile, however one with more intricate stone detailing. The porcelain wood tile runs through to the store’s back exit so customers that have to visit the store’s washroom experience a seamless design transition from front-of-house to the back-of-house. The back-of-house uses materials that are functional, durable, yet still indicative of Rebecca Minkoff’s playful professional style.

Design Concept
The Sander Residence involved converting a 1,500 square foot condominium unit in a 1960’s building into a functional, inviting and family-friendly space. With two young girls, Mr. and Mrs. Sander needed a minimum of three bedrooms and two bathrooms, with an open concept living space, working space that could be open or closed to the living space, and privacy for the master suite. Functional design considerations included maximizing storage and living spaces, and taking advantage of the natural light. As well, the family noted the importance of having a central gathering space to socialize as a family.
While located in an older building, the unit has north-facing views to Kitsilano Beach, windows on the North, East and West sides, and a flexible blue print that make the space a desirable blank canvas to create a family’s ideal living space. The design concept chosen for the Sander’s condo is “morning sunlight”: the soft, peaceful moment in the morning when the sunlight is just starting to poke though the curtains. Muted warm tones and natural materials and fabrics evoke the gentle, comforting feeling like the morning sunlight’s promise of a new day ahead.

Kitsilano Neighbourhood
Vine Street Location Located steps away from Kitsilano Beach, in the heart of the west side of Vancouver, the Sander’s condominium is in the epicentre of a vibrant neighbourhood that has a desirable mix of residential and commercial zoning. Kitsilano Beach is a popular location for local residents and visitors to the greater Vancouver area, to congregate in the warmer months. Sunlight & Views The condo faces north, with windows on the north, west, and east exterior walls. While north-facing windows receive less direct sunlight than south-facing windows, the condo has views of English Bay and local mountains. Local Architecture Kitsilano has a large number of small condominiums and apartment buildings that were built between 1950 and 1970. The typical architectural aesthetic of the time was simple, box shaped buildings, made for function and practicality.

Kitchen Design South Elevation The south-facing wall hosts the 36” wide fridge, pull-out pantry, wall-mounted coffee machine and oven, gas range and custom range hood covered in marble-patterned laminam material. Drawings feature sleek brass pulls, while upper cabinetry has simple bar pulls.
West Elevation The sink is centrally-located between the two windows, with open wood shelving above so as to not block any natural light. The west wall also features a panel-ready dishwasher, pull-out garbage, magic corner pull-out, and wine fridge.
Kitchen Island Views To add design interest, the kitchen island is asymmetrically designed so that the side facing the dining table shows vertical wood slatting that wraps around to the seating side of the island. The opposite end has the quartz countertop waterfall effect. The island is practical, with lots of deep storage drawers, while acting as a unique statement piece for the area.
24
The kitchen is one of the most important spaces in the condo as it acts as a central family gathering space. With that in mind, I designed a large island that can seat the whole family. The kitchen has all the essential appliances, with some added bonuses including a built-in Miele coffee machine, second oven, and wine fridge.

The ensuite’s porcelain tile flows into the shower area to make the space feel larger. Built-in medicine cabinet mirrors add more accessible storage to keep clutter off the countertop.
The shower features a shelf at 42” high to hold shampoo bottles and soap. The swing door make it easy to enter and exit the fullyglazed shower area.
Pendant lights hang down next to the medicine-cabinet mirrors to add optimal vanity lighting. Vessel sinks, wallmounted faucets, and floating drawer cabinetry give a sense of effortless luxury.
The herringbone ceramic wall tile continues to toilet area up to a height of 42” to align with the shower shelf height. The break in the tile gives some breathing room to the small space.
26
The master suite design offers a seamless transition from bedroom to bathroom by sharing similar patterns and tones in the materials. Additionally, while the bathroom is small, it has many small storage solutions built-in to the design to keep it uncluttered and to feel more spacious.

Design Concept
Reformation, an online clothing retailer for women, began its business in the fashion world by selling vintage clothing in its home town of Los Angeles. The business expanded to producing its own clothing designs based on vintage prints, styles, as well as sustainability. Reformation is a young company that has gained a loyal following in North America and globally. The clothing is hip, playful, and reminiscent of laid-back west coast style of the mid20th century.
area, small meeting zone, and an open office space for four employees. Given the brand’s strong aesthetic identity – namely vintage prints and whimsical shapes – the concept chosen for the design follows the geometric and floral patterns used on Reformation’s signature sundresses, while paying homage to the brand’s vintage routes. To bring the concept to fruition, ceramic tiles with printed patterns, geometric pattern wallpaper and upholstery, saturated hues, and midcentury modern millwork design, was used.
This design project involved creating an office space for Reformation in Vancouver’s city centre, acting as the Canadian headquarters for the brand. The office space had to house two private offices, a boardroom, reception, break

Heritage Building Reformation’s office space is located in the Marine Building, one of Vancouver’s heritage buildings built in the Art Deco style that was used in the early 1900’s. The design concept’s nostalgic feel is enhanced by the even older exterior architecture of the Marine Building. The blending of Vancouver’s heritage buildings with new modern towers is synonymous with Reformation’s blending of vintage and modern clothing. Location The building is located in the heart of Vancouver’s business district; it’s close to the financial centre and Vancouver’s Coal Harbour that houses the Vancouver Convention Centre and Canada Place. Local Businesses The density of the area allows for a wide array of restaurants, cafes, fitness facilities and retail within a small walking radius. The location is strategic for a vibrant brand that employs young creatives.

Reception View The reception features a custom-built desk and branding area flanked by two doors that open into the main office area. The boardroom is access directly from the reception so visiting clients and partners do not have to walk through the employee spaces. The design of the reception sets the tone for the rest of the office space – it’s colourful, welcoming, light, and features wall-mounted greenery.
44
CEO’s Office View The CEO’s office is simple yet sophisticated. A built-in storage wall allows for clutter to be carefully placed out-of-sight. Be orientating the desk to be perpendicular to the windows, there is ample space for guest seating in front of the desk and at a small side table by the glazing. Design Concept
Located on the south-west side of Bowen Island, overlooking Arbutus Bay, the Arbutus Lookout takes inspiration from a scallop-shell. Scallops, a common mollusk and edible delicacy in BC waters, has a fan-shaped shell and is often beige and off-white in colour. Taking the aesthetic of the scallop shell – its organic shape, linear ridges, and soft warm colour tones, and applying it to the interior design and architecture of the hotel, the result is a harmonious combination of Scandinavian minimalism, and laid-back west coast design. As a scallop’s shell protects the scallop inside, the walls of the Arbutus Lookout provide a safe, tranquil space for its guests. Named after a local BC’s infamous Arbutus tree, the Arbutus Lookout aims to give its visitors a sense of grounding while honoring the local beauty of land and sea.

Bowen Island
Arbutus Bay Location Bowen Island is a small island in the Georgia Straight; it’s a 20 min ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. The chosen site location for the hotel is above Arbutus Bay which is at the south end of Bowen Island. Sunlight & Views The site is oriented so that the outdoor living areas are facing South to ensure stronger direct natural sunlight. As well, the site’s location above Arbutus Bay allows for spectacular views of the Georgia Straight and the mainland in the distance. Local Attractions & Visitors Many Vancouverites visit Bowen island for short day trips by ferry or other boat as it’s small-town charm and close proximity to the city, make it an easy and appealing journey. Kayaking, hiking, swimming, and visiting small artisan shops and coffee shops are some of the main attractions on Bowen Island. Climate Bowen Island is in a temperate climate zone, the mildest in all of Canada. And it is in one of the mildest belts in Metro Vancouver. The climate is particularly appealing from late spring to early fall when the weather is warmer and outdoor activities such as hiking and swimming are more desirable.
