I am Clara Donati, a young graduate in Master of Architectural Design at the Politecnico di Milano, with 110eLode 110 (April 2017), qualified for the profession of Architect with the State Examination held at the Politecnico di Milano , in the First Session of this year. I’m an inquiring person. I look at the positive side of things. I am always getting surprised by life and are able to face the challenges that lay ahead with determination. My work is my passion and my passion is my work. I have always been fascinated by the world of architecture, art and technology. My interests also concern the world of photography, design of products, building materials, graphics and illustration, to include the world of new technologies, light, sound, and installations. I am an hardworking person, charismatic and organized. I’m an open and extroverted person. Available and suitable to work in teams, but remarkably able to operate in absolute autonomy. I always looking to increase my knowledge and, especially in my field, improve my techniques and representations. I am a very communicative person both in oral production and at graphic and illustrative level. Through free and digital handheld designs, I express my thoughts best. My method of work is basically based on five phases: vision, research, analysis, ideas development, and project development. I like, every time, to have different approaches, depending on the kind of work that is proposed to me. As can be seen in the Curriculum, thanks to university career and academic experience, such as workshops and stage, I have experienced different types of projects: from the detail of buildings to the development of an urban scale project; from the design of public and private buildings to the design of plants; from the sustainable design project and asset recovery built to the transformation of open space. My passion is to design, any form of architecture. In particular, the urban systems directly accessible to the community: from the architectural definition of buildings and public and commercial areas, to the development of urban designs by transforming and regenerating the city and its spaces, whilst preserving the inherent characteristics in the context and linking them over time. One of my requirenments that distinguishes me is to never give up and improve, day after day. I am a very determined person and I have very clear in my mind what goals I want to achive. Thanks for your kind attention,

The world in these years is knowing an unprecedented urbanization phenomenon. The challenge of the future is to be ready to welcome the expansion of these cities with adequate urban planning and infrastructure plans. Jordan, like many Eurasian countries, will face the growth in the coming years. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the practices used to manage the urban growth of the city with the aim of reaching a proposal that will respond to the problems encountered. The growth and development of the city will take the model of growth towards these horizontal peripheral axes shown in the diagrams from the existing east-west corridors for expansion, which will need to be reinforced with functions that communicate new settlements with the existing city. This is due to the need to preserve the area mainly to the east, as it is close to the Jordan valley and the south, as an area dedicated to agriculture as well as to the north. At the metropolitan scale, the masterplan was designed to connect the system of new settlements to the existing city: going to work on infrastructure such as the highways and the internal train line to Amman and those of the project, such as the new rail line that with a loop will go connect to existing qualla going to outline a new strong axis which acts as a hinge between the existing and future settlements.

At the regional scale project, the edges of the first settlement nucleus are analyzed. These quadrants are strong featured by the presence, at the top of the railroad, the highway and the wetland system, to the right of the natural presence of a water system, which is exploited in the project as a water management area and downstream from the system Consisting of projected eco-armatures, which will be developed as planned by the phases, in parallel with the new settlements. It is very important to note at this scale an existing network of industry and university campuses that in the project will form a new strong axis that develops around the existing highway near the railway. Also significant is the design of a new airport, which will be part of the network of existing ones.

According to the plan of the masterplan at the regional scale there are the remarks that Rem Koolhaas applies in the order: to the case of Villette park (1982-83), Bijlmermeer project (1986-87) and Melun-SĂŠnart site 1987). The generating principle is that of the bands, initially conceived as elements capable of rationally deploying the program within the project, but that with years they first turn into the large equipped axes until they become a urban subdivision system. The project consists essentially of a set of two-character bands. While on the one hand they are useful in highlighting the main road characteristics of the site (infrastructures), on the other they delimit borders from natural areas and thus become the necessary tool for the city to ensure the correct safety, beauty and accessibility criteria. The vacuum system becomes the basic layout that anticipates the next system of urban subdivision and building mode. The intention is to superimpose the topographic and geographic background with a second layer that can delimit the development areas where each interface between this subsystem is almost autonomous, differentiating each other by size, shape, position and relationship with the bands.

On the urban scale it deals with the theme of public space within the city, conceived as a large linear square able to convey inside moments of interaction of the inhabitants according to the characteristics of the Arab culture. The priorities in urban design were both the insertion of the tram, the fast connection element between the new settlements, and the design of a space that would combine the need to manage one of the most important resources for our city, water .

From the urban point of view, the traditional organization of the Arab city revolves around the marked separation of the public nucleus from that of the private areas of the residences. Public space is usually also the main crossing axis of the city (shari) along which the nodal functions arise, and where, inside, the central location is dedicated to the mosque, which welcomes various buildings dedicated to the community Such as: religious schools (madrase), public baths with thermal functions (hammam) or the indoor market (bazaar). From these main roads the secondary roads (darb) are directed towards the neighborhoods and from which it is possible to have access to smaller “private paths often conformed to typical blind and branched (aziqqa) schemes intended to give access to the various building units .

This project was born during the last Summer School of Piacenza. The theme of this year’s Summer School was feeding the landscape. We addressed this issue by choosing to work in the band that included the landscape of the countryside. The challenge was to create a new landscape for this area trying to define a “ third landscape “ would say Gilles Clement . So we thought that the element with which we had to confront was the soil . And this has become the device that set the project in its early stages. The ground bends and generator of new spaces and architecture. The action of the engrave has become the design theme.

Our project is the path, which connects a lot of different parts of the island. We would like that people of the island and tourists as well can enjoy the entire island, so the path becomes the tool to discover it. For us the most important characteristic of the island is that in 2 hours people can experience lots of different landscapes, for example: the waterfront with the beaches, the forest with the hills, the quarries and ruins area with the museum. So our project consider the context as a fundamental element.

Our path is completely new and it goes in the unexplored areas of the island. It is a line, but together with the existing street them create a loop. The shape of the path is very important because his width is not the same in all parts, in fact it depends on the context. We choose some significant places with very different natural characteristics of landscape, in order to show that the path changes according to the context.

Quarries are very characteristics places of the island, indeed the path pass around one of it where we thought to add two different rest places. Both starts from the path, but they are different, one is bigger with a cover and stairs which have the shape of the rock, where seat to relax. The other one is smaller and is in the middle of the quarry, it is a special place, in fact also its shape and its material are very different from the rest of the path.

We choose to show also an important point where the path meets the existing street, in this case the path comes next to it and it is characterised by a box. We decide to give to people different experiences and feeling and in this part the box help to concentrate on the sky and the trees over the people.

The project takes as its philosophy the willingness to work among things, accepting the challenge of triggering new relationships, giving quality to the places, spaces are now being deprived of identity that Marc Augé would call “non-places” using the instrument of regeneration. Our project takes then in between as a tool generative project would seek to solve the traditional dualism of town and country, by engaging new relationships between the two. Mend that relationship through a process of infiltration of nature in the city, increasing the permeable surface and forming a new landscape, meeting and contamination between town and country. What is referred to in various disciplines by the term “urban void”, is rather far from an empty element, indeed it is a palimpsest of tracks and signs, which are precious materials for architectural design.

The designer is always confronted with the theme of the story (manufacturing activity) which constitutes an unavoidable material for the project, the story should be the instrument dialectical for the designer, but it can not be a refuge, thus implying the repetition of toutcourt solid experience. The key issue is to implement a relationship with the preexistence, through a critical process, which uses materials such as the history of the project and the environment in general, causing them to become tools of design.

Inverted Soil is the title of the project, which works through a continuous process of reversals of soils, digging in some cases and in others emancipated. The soil is not in fact seen as a limit: the excavation becomes the action that allows to locate new places and new areas. The project is capable of activating a system of relations.

The open space project works with elements that are future ruins, peremptory elements able to design a new urban areas. Tree, columns and walls are devices that work in connection with one another, determining new measures. The tree becomes column in the subsoil and the wall becomes an element of designation identifying areas introverts. In keeping with the theme inverted soil occurs a reversal of the relationship between construction and subsoil, a primitive soil clay and a corresponding system in the basement, underground, man-made and inhabited.

The project is made up of strong elements, which become generators. The building has regularity and hierarchy but also undergoes continuous variations, in relation to the changing needs of the project. To make clear that combination between permanence and variability of the type, the project was broken down into its plans, and each of them was analyzed in relation to its constituent elements. In the underground space the project assumes a transversal development respect to that of the tower. The soil is modeled through bending action, identifying different areas. The key issue is the correlation between the above ground and underground spaces. The project is conceived as a system of relations.

The proposal is based on a contrasting aproach regarding technology. The main goal is to develop a refuge that merges a primitive space with technology. Starting from the architype of the cave and the forest we project a shelter which mixes the primitive idea of a refuge and the high technology of modern culture. After an analysis of the material, its properties, the needs of the user and the design requirements; we projected the Hyper Cave. It consists of a superposition of larch wood beams which are extruded outside the inner and outer limits of the main structure to produce different situations and interactions with the users. The light gets in and out through the several translucent gaps which enphasize the rithm.

The theme of the course was the installation of a temporary museum set-up inside the Palladian Basilica in Vicenza with the same Palladio theme. The purpose was to create a path inside to explain all the life of the great artist and architect. Everything was designed as if we were another great architect Carlo Scarpa. Our compositional choice resumes the desire to tell the 4 volumes of Palladian within a set of wall that reminds the architects of the Scarpa architect. In addition to the interior design, it is planned to design totems from within the city that lead with a path inside the exhibition.
