GRAPHIC DESIGN

2019

Fresh out of College Hello! My name is Clarisa Venegas and I am a Motion Graphic Designer with a certification in Design Thinking. I am moved by the idea of being able to create visual designs that can tell stories and meanings through shapes, colors, and textures from a user-centered view. I enjoy doing research for graphic development of concepts and creating illustrations that come alive by giving them movement in After Effects. I am fascinated by different design processes such as Slow Thinking, Inclusive Design, and Disruption. My work is constantly influenced by my interest in art, especially literature, illustration, character design, and music. Throughout my life, I have always been curious about the design processes, so I am excited to have the possibility to continue learning and professionally apply my knowledge in projects as interesting as those in your portfolio. Let me show you some of my work...

GRAPHIC DESIGN

2019

What kind of proyects you’ll find in my portfolio? My work expands within the creative fields of design such as branding, editorial, motion graphics, and illustration. Within the portfolio, there are projects that I have done as a freelancer and some school projects.

2019 MOTION GRAPHICS – PORTFOLIO

The Grand Budapest Gifs (2016) The project was born as a tribute to the film ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ directed by Wes Anderson, one of my favorite directors of American cinema. The project consisted of designing animated illustrations with geometric stylization for a minimalist appearance. The animation was done in After Effects using the principle of secondary action animation, in which movements are added to the main action to give greater dimension to it. *Click here to see them in action • Softwares: After Effects & Adobe Illustrator. • Individual School Project

2019 EDITORIAL – PORTFOLIO

Rattler Crossfit (2015) Rattler Crossfit is a Crossfit training service in Mcallen, Texas. Being a new brand Rattler Crossfit was looking to position itself in the market, that’s why there’s a clear exposure of the Visual identity. The flyers were designed in a postcard size that not only gives the basic information of the services but because of the size and design in the back the users could keep it as a motivational postcard. The content of the messages seeks to identify the user with the mindset and lifestyle of the athlete. • Programas: Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop. • Freelance Work.

2019 MOTION GRAPHICS – PORTFOLIO

Ser Pasado, ser presente, ser futuro. (2017) On the occasion of the anniversary of the University of Monterrey (UDEM), a project was assigned to challenge the students to design a timeline of what was happening in the world while the UDEM was founded? The challenge was to translate information into a visuall interface that people could interact with. As a solution, an investigation was carried out on which a timeline - physically mounted - was designed in which the important events of the world were compared with those of the University of Monterrey. My primary contribution was to animate the illustrations, which were visualized through a virtual reality app, prompting the user into a physical-digital interaction with the timeline. *Click here to see them in action • Software: After Effects. • Collaborative school project.

2019 BRANDING – PORTFOLIO

Truxty (2016) Truxty logistics is a company that is dedicated to the transportation of food inside and outside the United States. Being a new brand, Truxty needs a visual identity that is easy to remember and differentiate from the “loaded” image in the industry. The visual image must represent the Brand values: reliability and assertiveness. So, a logo with modern typography of the neo-grotesque style was designed, with application in stationery and cargo trucks. • Softwares: Adobe Illustrator & Adobe Photoshop • Freelance Work.

2019 ICON DESIGN – PORTFOLIO

Pabellón Amarillo (2017) Pabellon Amarillo, the new project of the University of Monterrey where students had the opportunity to present proposals for the design of the visual identity, including signage. The ‘Entropy’ sculpture, which is iconic among UDEM students, was the inspiration for the isometric design style of the signage. A special grid was designed to be able to give a 3D appearance.

2019 BRANDING – PORTFOLIO

Unravel (2018) Unravel is an innovation agency formed by freelancers who were looking to re-design their brand identity. The main needs were that the image looked fun, friendly while still looking formal and innovative. So it was decided to create a dynamic image where the color palette will fulfill the tasks.

• Softwares: Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop. • Freelance Work.

2019 EDITORIAL – PORTFOLIO

UDEM: LDG (2016) The graphic design department of the University of Monterrey was looking for a re-design of its promotional brochures to attract new students. The main challenge was to create a double-ink trend design that at the same time aligned with the image of the UDEM, in addition to proposing a new information architecture that would be attractive and easy to understand for the new generation of students. The information architecture was inspired by visual thinking and Simon Sinek’s golden circle methodology, beginning with the why: Why should you enter this program?, how: How are you going to learn what graphic design is?, what: What will you get from this race? And end with a call to action: How do I enroll in the program? • Softwares: After Indesign & Adobe Illustrator. • Individual school project

2019 ILLUSTRATION – PORTFOLIO

36 Days of Mental Health (2018) 36 Days of Type is a global event where artists, designers, and creatives design the alphabet based on a theme or design style of their own. The theme chosen bt me was mental health, where each letter represented a mental illness. For the design inspiration, an investigation was carried out regarding the condition, symptoms, medications and famous artists with the condition. The design needed to reflect the sensations of how people with the condition experience. Also, postcards were created containing information about the condition and a QR code with a link to a playlist with music that raises awareness about mental illness. • Softwares: After Effects & Adobe Illustrator. • Individual school project..

2019 ILLUSTRATION – PORTFOLIO

Anam (2018) Anam is a line of household products of aromatherapy that includes soaps, essences, and oils. The visual identity was focused to be a product of status and elegance. The inspiration for the design of the visual image was herbalism in Mexican culture. Anam is the combination of the word “soul” and “earth” in the Mixtec language. My main collaboration within the project was to design the illustrations representing the association of the product with nature. For the design, it is used in thin lines to give a sense of delicacy and tranquility. • Programas: Adobe Illustrator. • Proyecto Escolar Colaborativo.

2019 DESIGN RESEARCH & BRANDING – PORTFOLIO

Lucidity (2018) Lucidity is born of the challenge: How could we design a solution that supports young people suffering from anxiety disorder to cope with the condition in their day-to-day? It was conceptualized as a transformational event where interaction between the student community is encouraged and simplifies information regarding mental health, as well as offering actionable strategies to cope with these conditions. For the conceptualization of the project, the Design Thinking process and other design methods were applied. More than 20 students, professors, and health professionals were interviewed, based on insights to conceptualize the event, including experience strategy, dynamics, content, naming, and visual identity. Additionally, I investigated the trends of slow design, inclusive design, behavioral design and designing for anxiety.

The main objective of the event was not only to inform people dealing with anxiety but to involve everyone who was somehow involved in the topic (teachers, medical / psychology students, parents, health professionals), to create empathy towards the condition and user, while seeking to empower the audience to learn to cope with the condition. Through the insights, we created design principles that were used for the creation of the visual identity, like minimalism, round shapes, symmetry elements, small color palette, relaxing sensory stimulation, slow and fluid movements (in animations), and translucent or bright materials.

• Softwares: After effects, Adobe Illustrator & SketchUp. • Collaborative thesis (Team of 4 people).

2019 DIGITAL DRAWING – PORTFOLIO

Me as an illustrator Currently, I am working to develop my style as an illustrator, some of my influences are illustrators such as: Fran Meneses, Ree Salochka, Fukari, Benji Nate, Alba Filella, El Grand Chamaco y Camille Chew. What I find attractive in their styles is the way they manipulate the human anatomy to create their style and the continuous use of the same color palette and elements that make their illustrations easy to recognize. Software: Procreate.
