This portfolio belongs to a girl that believes she can make a difference to the world. She is determined and hard working, therefore there’s nothing she can not do. She believes that she never grow up, the act of learning is just part of her life. She has chosen architecture and design as she believes that it has a huge impact towards the community.

Design and architecture is not a direct solution to problems, instead it is a way of thinking beyond the obvious. They have become the common universal language that could potentially affect community’s movement and thinking. Therefore, through her study process, she invetigates the relationship between human, architecture, and events. And when the 3 play, they create the unexpected.

Events define a space, it describes the interval and gives a meaning.

05 manifesto to solve a global issue that is predicted to happen in Newport regarding working culture. Work takes most of the time of our day and the routinity will eventually cause a disconnectivity between the community and the business district. it is a social issue that can’t be solved by just a homogeneous building. Therefore to create an architecture based on this diagram of seriousness where the purity of the program, contrast the active playfullness of community generate unexpected events.

view from the docklands “the dream begins by inspiring others, so take chances, meet new people. it might take you to a cloud you’ve never been before.”

to create a cloud like structure, that strives to break the idea of a formal, intimidating corridor and instead a multiplicity of a structure that develop itself to become a space, a circulation, and even a furniture. Therefore, a steel structure called collaborative core is designed. The name speaks for itself, being a place where everyone exchange and interact. Its informality has invite people to use the structure to have a casual meeting, lunch break, exhibition, even pop up events. This way, working place doesn’t exclude themselves from the society, but instead by involving the community where they can benefit, and inspire each other. Collaborative core is designed permanently flexible to allow user to develop it as a dynamic process. The structure knows no gender or status, instead it’s a pure object that engage with multicultural users. It’s intention is basic, so it fits the essential need of the users regardless their differences. It generates unstable and inconsistent moments that gives an everchanging excitement of the future (endless interaction).

01 INTRODUCTION

grange gardens, Cardiff CF11 7LJ

The site is rich with vegetation, tall trees as wind breaker and sun shading. It is easily accessible and strategically surrounded by restaurants, groceries, schools

02 ISSUE

promote health through architecture

- Obesity percentage is getting higher in Wales, especially Cardiff - Lack of understanding of healthy food - Demand of a hanging out place for community

03 hypothesis

- Understand the cycle of food production - Raise awareness of healthy eating and active lifestyle - To provide a good quality space for cafe that could potentially act as community resource - To provide a community hub for social, educational, and creative activity

04 concept

To promote healthy eating through understanding the ingredients with the help of archietecture. However, instead of taking the concept architecture that educates, pleasure is being introduced. Through pleasure, one will have more appreciation for the architecture that will eventually unfolds its knowledge about food. If farm has always been away from town in the past, and we are trying to bring it closer to town nowadays, this project strives for the future. Where farm is being incorporated into each and every house. People could grow their own food, and support the local grocer. Ultimately, eating and living healthy will be a habit and reduce the percentage of obesity

multi-generation house

“ an building for human habitation, especially one that is lived by a family or small group of people ” “ a buidling in which people meet for a particular activity ”

01 ISSUE

generation gap

the importance of a house as a foundation to define one’s character. As globalisation has impact our lifestyle, the space we live in remains formal. The architecture restrict the space to specific events and possibilities. Therefore the house become autonomous. The presence of primary structure such as wall, floor, ceiling, column gave the sense of privacy and reduces the interaction between the users. Lifestyle is defined by structures and function. How can house provide us with conditions to help us perform?

02 theory

deconstructivism

Using deconstructivism as theory to generate design, could potentially result in a new typology of house. To explore new possibilities of dwellings in reaction to lifestyle. “a method of questioning our perception that are bred into us” The project is to challenge human’s activity towards space. The combination of heterogeneous and incompatible terms. It generates conditions that allow events in action and thought to happen. The relationship of human and architecture are based on uncertanties (no external measures).
