Evolving Education

When Mary Frances Clarke wrote, “Let us…keep our schools progressive with the times in which we live…” in 1884, she could not have imagined the world today. Living in a globally connected society had already increased our awareness of issues impacting access to a high quality education - then the pandemic made it shockingly clear that to continue the advancement of Clarke’s core values of education, charity, justice, and freedom, the university had to innovate.

While some initiatives were already in motion when the pandemic struck, COVID-19 drove us to adopt new ways of thinking. Rather than push forward with what had worked in the past, we forged new paths that have had a positive impact for learners of all ages and backgrounds.

CC TODAY, CU TOMORROW

While Admissions had to adapt to virtual visits and recruiting efforts, one program that deserves celebration is the CC Today, CU Tomorrow transfer program. By establishing partnerships with all 15 of Iowa’s community colleges, Clarke is now able to accept full associate of arts and associate of science degree transfer majors with a two-year completion at Clarke. For those who haven’t earned an associate degree, the partnership allows a robust team of professionals from Admissions, Academic Affairs, and Financial Aid to help students choose courses that will transfer to Clarke and ensure a smooth transition process.

MASTER OF ATHLETIC TRAINING

Another new program creating opportunities for learners at various stages of their lives and careers is the Master of Athletic Training. Under the supervision of a licensed physician, students will develop athletic injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation programs, as well as gain practical experience in administering immediate emergency and follow-up care. The program was developed with pathways such as the 3+2, allowing Clarke students to earn their bachelor and master’s degree in less time. Learners who are new to Clarke can also complete the master’s program in two years, making the master’s in athletic training a great return on investment.

CAREERPLUS

Students early in their careers are far from the only learners Clarke serves, thanks in part to our new CareerPLUS program. Offering everything from online micro courses that can be

completed in less than a month, to a pathway for a full degree, CareerPLUS caters to learners in any stage of their life. Plus, courses are taught by local experts, so the lessons learned are immediately applicable to homes, businesses, and communities in our region.

MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

In addition to launching new efforts, we’ve also revitalized our Master’s of Business Administration program. Its new eight-week, 100 percent online format allows learners to take one course at a time and still complete the 32-credit program in less than two years. This flexibility was incorporated into the program based on student feedback and faculty expertise, along with courses focused on the leadership and management competencies employers are seeking. With the relaunch, Clarke is also able to offer unique certificate options including Business Management, Leadership, and Sport Management to unlock more opportunities for career advancement.

Each of these efforts has advanced Clarke University’s belief that learning is lifelong and life-changing, and more initiatives continue to develop. As challenges and opportunities arise, Clarke will continue to progess with the time in which we live, for the betterment of all.
