El Inmigrante Digital En Ambientes Virtuales De Aprendizaje
El surgimiento de la modalidad virtual ha traído grandes desafíos, tanto para quien facilita el proceso educativo, como para el estudiante, especialmente para el denominado inmigrante digital. Los parámetros para establecer cuándo finaliza la era del inmigrante digital y cuándo se inicia la era del nativo digital han sido de gran controversia. Sin embargo, según Parra de Marroquín (2008), se considera inmigrante digital a toda persona nacida antes de 1995. Para los inmigrantes digitales, la educación a distancia les ofrece una oportunidad para estudiar una carrera profesional. Entre las características que mejor describen
al inmigrante digital se encuentran las siguientes: a) adaptación tecnológica, b) estructura mental definida con instrucciones específicas, c) información de forma lógica y secuencial, d) preferencia por realizar las tareas de forma individual y no grupal, y e) lectura sobre el manual y preferencia por los textos. Considerar las características del inmigrante digital en todo lo concerniente a la educación a distancia es vital, ya que ante las situaciones sociales, políticas y económicas de nuestros países se hace imperativo repensar a qué población nos dirigimos con la oferta académica y la modalidad

CARIB PIPELINE INC. seeks an Senior Marine Welder/Fitter for work to be conducted in Ponce, Mayagüez and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The incumbent must possess 24 months of experience. The duties of the position include: Weld steel, stainless steel and aluminum components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions for merchant marine vessels with steel plates up to ¾” and schedule 80 piping. Set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment. Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys. Supervise other welder-fitters, if necessary. Ignite torches. Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment. Prepare all material surfaces to be welded. Develop templates and models for welding projects, based on blueprint information. Guide and direct flames or electrodes on or across workpieces to straighten, bend, melt, or build up metal. Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors. Cut, contour, and bevel metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders, and templates. Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools. Check grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments. Operate metal shaping, straightening, and bending machines, such as brakes and shears. Set up and use ladders and scaffolding as necessary to complete work. Dismantle metal assemblies or cut scrap metal, using thermal-cutting equipment, such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc equipment. Signal crane operators to move large workpieces. Estimate materials needed for production and manufacturing and maintain required stocks of materials. Join parts such as beams and steel reinforcing rods in marine vessels/barges or shore tanks as necessary. Gouge metals, using the air-arc gouging process. Special skills and requirements: Ability to work in confined spaces and outdoors. Knowledge of SMAW and MIG processes. The candidate must possess at a minimum 2 years of experience in a shipyard and/or marine repair facility operating under the standards certifiable by the AMERICAN BUREAU OF SHIPPING and the US COAST GUARD. Availability to work on weekends and overtime in ports in San Juan,Ponce and Mayaguez and to travel to nearby Caribbean ports when necessary.
