VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Administrative Assistant
The Caribbean Fishery Management Council (CFMC), a Federal Government instrumentality operating under authority of the United States Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, established under the provisions of the Magnuson-Stevens Act (PL-94-265 as amended), will receive applications for the Administrative Assistant position.
Work description and requirements: Assist staff making arrangements for activities such as travel and attendance to meetings. Coordinate and keep record of appointments of CFMC and advisory members. Draft non-technical correspondence. Assemble information for staff reports and for the Council, SSC, and/or Advisory bodies meetings. Handle incoming and outgoing telephone communications and incoming and outgoing mail. Provides clerical assistance and administrative support to staff. Proficiency knowledge of Word, Excel and Power Point software. Responsible of maintaining the general file (filing and searching of file documents). Retrieve mailing list information from the computer. Assist in the preparation of different documents for distribution to Council, SSC and CFMC advisory bodies, and for the general public. Operates the copying machine and other office specialized equipment. Performs general clerical and typing duties, as well as other office related work, as required.
The appointment will be at the salary range of the General Schedule Grade GS 5 to GS 6. Starting salary will be at GS 5-1equivalent ($18.06/hour), plus the applicable cost of living allowance (COLA) and the fringe benefits provided by the CFMC.
The contractor should have a BS Degree in Office Administration related field from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of format, spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization and technical terminology. Must be fluent (oral and written) in both, English and Spanish.
A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in related work.
Must have ability to meet deadlines, and have people skills to work with fishers, scientists, managers and general public. Must be willing and able to travel outside the office, whenever necessary.
The station for this work will be at the CFMC headquarters located at 270 Muñoz Rivera Avenue, Suite 401, San Juan, PR 00918. Telework will be allowed following the schedule adopted by CFMC for all staff.
