Preface
The Senior Dance Production at Juilliard is an opportunity for seniors to execute and exhibit what they’ve learned during their four years at Juilliard. It is a year long process that leads to a 3-day program entirely choreographed and produced by the students, giving them hands-on experience to the many different aspects and challenges involved in producing a show.

History

BEHIND THE SCENES In the beginning of every academic year, seniors who wish to choreograph the production apply for the position. Seven students are then chosen by faculty based on past work, experience, and academic standing. Auditions for the show take place in early November. During the auditions, each choreographer presents their personally chosen muse for the show, along with 1-2 phrases meant to embody their vision for the show. Students rotate, one-by-one presenting their own dance interpretations of the phrases they were directed.
After auditions the choreographers share who they wish to have on their individual teams, and together must agree on who the final rosters will be. After winter break, the teams gather to begin rehearsals and elect a team of who will be in charge of costumes, lighting, production, etc.
