Julius Caesar Part 1 “Caesar in Rome”
SUMMARY An army supported by Julius Caesar fought a terrible war against another army supported by Pompey and his sons. At last the army of Julius Caesar defeated his enemies. He decided to return to Rome where his friends organised a procession to honour his victory. Flavius and Marullus, two Roman tribunes, were not happy; they thought that Caesar was too powerful and he might use his power in a bad way. They knew that Caesar’s friends wanted to make him king. They wanted to protect the people of Rome from Caesar. Caesar returned to Rome on the feast of Lupercal. There was a special race and Caesar and his wife Calpurnia went to see the games. Caesar asked Mark Anthony, his friend and athlete, to touch Calpurnia when he was running to bring her luck, according to tradition. At that moment, a soothsayer appeared and announced that the ides of March were dangerous for Caesar. He didn’t pay attention and went to see the race. Cassius and Brutus, Caesar’s friends, were talking about the people of Rome’s decision to make Caesar king. None of them wanted Caesar had that power. Brutus knew that Cassius and his friends were planning something but he made clear that he loved Rome and freedom.
