CLAUDIA FERRANNINI Architectural Designer
PERSONAL STATEMENT Exploring creative possibilties into a global landscape. Thanks to my experience in Europe and Central America, I am developing new architectural skills according to different necessities and ecologies. This practice allows me to apply a multidisciplinary approach which establishes an intimate connection with reality. Starting from a complex context and envisioning possibilities that contribute to an efficient design process, my work aims to be accesible for its users.

Hotel Triangulo Ocotal,Guanacaste,Costa Rica May 2019
The project area is located at 145 metres south of Ocotal’s Bahia beach, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica, in a territory in high demand due to its extraordinary beauty. This growth has been driven by the arrival of a large number of foreigners, who found here a place to retire, thereby promoting the development of the area. However, the regulatory system also allows touristic structures with high capacity, and the owner of the lot was interested in building an hospitality, mixed-use building, according to the vocation of the area but also respecting the blooming native vegetation. The project’s proposal consists in the drafting of an Anteproyecto, completed with Program Area, Conceptualization, Masterplan and MoodBoard. The hotel program is developed and analysed in order to create an attractive proposal for the client – in terms of investment – and also explores the boundaries between long- and short-term permanence spaces. The project also aims to create harmony between the architectural and natural system: the design concept is the camouflage, a strategy that can be found in nature which generates a balance among all the elements in the same enviroment. In fact, integration into the natural system is achieved pursued the use of local materials and the lanscaping project design. Trees are abundant especially on the right side of the lot, where they offer a natural shelter and privacy.

Hotel La Lima Cartago,Costa Rica March 2018
The Hotel is located close to the La Lima Free Zone, a corporative area in La Lima, Cartago, Costa Rica. The projects aims to meet the needs outlined by the client, the structure is designed by the design team. The project arises from the need to support the existent corporative centre in a synergic way, by building up a relationship between the energies that operate at the site. The spaces will be enhanced in order to achieve a correct land use and to take advantage of the green areas. The plan intends to generate a design that fulfils all the building regulations and all the institutions involved. The Hotel is a satellite structure of an existent corporative area but also searches a dialogue with the city and the mountains nearby. The project is structured in order to create an internal plaza, surrounded by vegetation, and to maximise the visual in the social areas. All the free areas are dedicated to car parking and chill and landscaping spots. The Hotel is organised in 5 levels, including a mixed-use level (ground floor), a supermarket, an auditorium, a gym, opened to all users. On the upper levels, the hotel spaces are designed following the biophilic design guidelines, in order to increase the user’s connection with the natural enviroment.

Tenuta delle Ripalte Capoliveri,Isola d’Elba,Italy October 2018
The Ripalte property is located 9 km away from the little town of Capoliveri, Elba Island, Tuscany (IT). The touristic structure is organised in 6 farms, remodelled in the typical tuscan-colonial architecture, 16 villas and a glamping area. The whole area is surrounded by wild vegetation, vineyards and a mindblowing view of the Tirrenian sea. Taking into account the possibility to expand the receptivity of the property, a preliminary design purpose has been drafted in order to both accomplish the needs of the clients and respect the natural setting of the area. T he purpose is structured in 2 steps: first the reallocation of the units considering the existing villas, then follows the positioning of new units into the property. Three typologies of vacation apartments were designed in order to provide a diverse experience of living in deep contact with nature, but also enjoying all the comforts and activities available on the property.

O.A.M. Ospedale al Mare Venice Recreation Center Lido di Venezia,Italy
The intervention site is in located in a thin strip of land out of Venezia, the Lido, where some important events happens like The Cinema’s Festival. The aim of the competition was the rehabilitation of the Ospedale al Mare (O.A.M.), an hospital complex built under the fascist regime. As time goes by O.A.M. became an oasis of health until the eighties, and officially abandoned in 2006: with this competition, another possibility of use is given to the structure, despite neglect and decay. The project aims to enable Lido’s inhabitants to take back the site by providing cultural activities and social initiatives. The restoration of the O.A.M. is not only the material recovery of an abandoned body: it is the process of re-appropriation by the citizenry of this unique space and the creation of a culture catalyst. This project is an attempt to create a mind-bending reality where the sea experience is de-constructed. In Venezia, the carnival is one of the most important traditions: for centuries people have been wearing masks to feel free and to escape from ordinary life and binding roles. And it is from the mask that came the idea of dressing up space with elements that change their meaning and the way people may interact with them. The goal is to blur the boundaries between earth and sea (body and mind) and to provide people with a virtual space to explore how body and spirit both are enriched by the surroundings.

Tower in Turin
University Research Center Turin,Italy
The Mirafiori industrial district in Turin has been for decades a place where humans and machines worked like one thing; daylife was decided by, for and within the factory. Nowadays progress in working technology has made this place a rubble depot, where dismissed and silent buildings are surrounded by an alienating atmosphere of abandonment. Recently, there has been renewed interest in giving an economic signature to this area, and new partners are looking for a future for this neighborhood. In this scenario, a new project for the Mirafiori district, once FIAT’s most important production site, envisions a pole of interchange and new fluxes and activities, purposing it as a stable container of public and private functions. The intervention site is a space edited by the extension of the two visual axes from the design center, crossing the future M2 station. The objects that organizes the streamings are: the basement, the tower, and a third object rotated onto the diagonal axes of the metro station. The echo of the diagonal direction models the basement creating a metaphysical stair that links road level to square level. The basement is also the monolytical, narrow foot of the tower. Inside the tower spaces are organized in collective multilevel areas. The challenge here is to optimize economical, human and territorial resources, organizing them vertically even in a flat context.

ShougangErtong
Urban Regeneration of Abandoned Industrial sites Beijing,China The design area is located in the west of Beijing, in the district of Shijingshan, characterized by the presence of a large number of production buildings, in the former Shougang-Ertong steel factory. The rehabilitation of this industrial area would provide the opportunity to dilute the over-centralized population and, on the other hand, to attract investment and provide employment. The intent of the proposal was to improve spatial quality by mantaining the industrial spirit of the area and rehabilitating it to different functions. The decision was to preserve the industrial buildings and to use them as the main core, developing the masterplan on the sides. The intent is to have a mixitè in the entire area, alive all day long, with the fusion of different functions. The development of the new residential areas follows the hutong concept, the traditional Beijing alleys, which are formed by lines of Shiheyuan, courtyard houses. Here, the inner spaces are used as residences and the outer spaces for commercial activities. In some cases, the attempt is to reproduce the model of the chinese courtyard, and in other cases the areas are adapted to other needs, reproposing common activities and interactions for the inhabitants of the slabs. In the new neighborhood there are shops and offices, which are intended to foster interaction among the families.
