“A window is a compromise”. The Urban Landscape by Gordon Cullen. The building is located in a corner and the design is based on the integration of the building into the city through a semi-public space –the plaza- which confers importance to the pedestrian above the vehicle. The plaza, located at the corner of the building confers importance to the pedestrian above the vehicle and integrates the building to the city. At the top metallic wood-like louvers is the enclosure for the staircase allowing for some transparency and light-shade effects.
Big windows are used to take advantage of the sunlight and as a symbolic representation of the transparency of the bank as an entity. At the same time louvers are incorporated to provide some shading especially during the warmest season of the year. First level: retail branch operations and support facilities. Upper floor: Multipurpose and training rooms with independent access. This building’s design dictated the new standard that will govern the corporate image of the Asociacion Popular de Ahorros y Prestamos and became a landmark in this part of the city.

The offices are located in an emblematic building of Santo Domingo and the structure should remain untouched. The design had to be adjusted to all the existing elevators-stairs blocks and services areas to make the project feasible. It also had to be planned in stages since the floor needed to continue its regular operations. The exterior big windows remained as part of the original facade of the building which allowed the project to take advantage of the impressive views of the Caribbean Sea facing to the South. The interior design is modern and incorporates materials such as marble and wood as well as new and modern modular systems. The neutral colours are predominant to provide a sober atmosphere helping the bank’s artworks collection to highlight.

This multinational company is restructuring its Caribbean offices as per the branch’s new standards: the co-working environments concept. This project is developed in three consecutive stories. Each one contains specifics areas of operations of the company and the access is controlled from the main lobby located on the ground floor.
Each story’s foyer contains floor to ceiling images with the history of the company highlighted with special lighting effects. The materials are of high quality and durable but modest in their aesthetic expression. The office furniture fulfills with the most strict ergonomic standards. Support areas are provided per floor (services and kitchenette) as well as collaborative spaces and private phone booths.

Music is the inspiration of this project which had to be adapted to the new standards set by the franchise. The main entrance is through the emblematic Hard Rock Cafe guitar on the facade and under a broad ceiling lighting as a reference of the Broadway theaters.
In the interior design prevails a sophisticated style in contrast with the simple and locally manufactured elements creating a strong sense of place. The differentiation of each area’s character is reinforced by the illumination effects, the furniture, and the layouts. As a particular component of this location of Hard Rock Café, there is an exterior terrace with a more relaxing, spontaneous and tropical character.
Scope of work: Interior Design, technical systems (electric, mechanic, plumbing, bar/kitchen coordination, Audio-Video and projection systems, CCTV, alarm), Memorabilia Coordination, Franchise Approval, General Contractor

The project consisted of the recycling of two industrial warehouses to install a broadband telecommunications company: Wind Telecom. The design had to be flexible enough to be adaptable as the company grew. Materials are used to express their own nature and to differentiate the use of different spaces. The lobby is dominated by transparency in contrast with the metallic structures while in the public areas the concrete tablets are the main facade component. The landscape was an important component of the project and part of the exterior plazas. The project involved a deep commitment and continuous coordination work with specialized equipment and technology trades.

The concept of the project was to have a building as an expression, at an urban scale, of the main product: the wine. And so, bricks represent the soil where the vineyard grows, the barrel where the crop is stored and aged (housing the stairwell) and the bottles where the product is finally present.
Soon, the building became as “the bottle corner” having five thousand bottles of wine hanging at the corner under the ventilated facade concept. The lighting effects of this strong corner component vary between the day and night. During the day it acts like a mirror reflecting the dynamism of the city while during the night it becomes into a translucid element which presence is reinforced through the lighting that has been incorporated. The interior design was a challenge due to the wide variety of wines that had to be exhibit classified by wine-growing regions, in a creative and attractive fashion.

This project is part of a trilogy of restaurants: Mustard’s, 3Mariachis and Paninoteca. This one stands with its fun oriented atmosphere: “the burger’s house”. Each component is a part of the hamburger: the brick reminds the bread, the fiberglass perforated panels on the sides represent the slices of cheese while the red round lamps are the tomatoes. The central table area has a suspended ceiling that symbolizes the fried bacon (over an upholstered surface for acoustic purposes) and at the front, a bright green screen that represents the lettuce. Most of these elements had to be artisanal and created for this specific project. The installation process on its own demanded consistent and precise coordination and scheduling.

This project developed the Pizzarelli brand image for all the food court locations. The idea was to have an open concept of the kitchen so the customer participated in the cooking process of the pizza. The standard countertop height was lowered to have a more open relationship with the client and is curved as a welcoming gesture. The franchise colours are predominant within the finishing materials: red, green and wheat. The pizza box unfolds becoming the front area suspended ceiling that ends up as the cashier’s back up wall.
