CLAUDIA SÁNCHEZ

PORTFOLIO 2019

02

hello My name is Claudia Sรกnchez and I am an Architect. In this portfolio you will find a selection of relevant work that I have developed during the last five years. The following built projects and unrealized proposals had been handpicked for two reasons: 1. In whole, they represent my understanding of architecture practice as a learning and explorative process that can be wandered from multiple scales and perspectives. 2. In detail, they showcase the range of technical skills as well as the passion and versatility that my development as an architect embodies.

casa hr A house designed for a young and growing family to enjoy and celebrate everyday life with their relatives and friends.

claudia sánchez

Situated in a tight but welloriented plot, the house spans 250 sqm across two floors connected through a doubleheight living area at its core. On the ground floor, the lounge, kitchen, and dining areas spill out to the south and southwest terraces through large openings that provide natural light in winter and cross ventilation and sunlight protection in summer. Upstairs, a studio overlooks the lounge serving as a shared space for three en-suite bedrooms. The design follows bioclimatic and environmental construction principles. It is built with a CLT structure, a timber-frame thermal envelope insulated with mineralwool and EIFS, and a heating and cooling system that works on aerothermal energy. This project achieved an A in energy efficiency and environmental impact rating.

trikini club Interior refurbishment and design project for a sandwich and salad bar in Malasaña neighborhood in Madrid.

claudia sánchez

The client required to transform the 1890’s pharmacy into a surprising interior preserving the existing and listed finishings and furniture. To address these challenges, the strategies were working with contrasting materialities and geometries and creating a dialogue between the old elements and the new temporary additions through color and dry construction techniques. A lighted wall made out of translucent polycarbonate, timber frame, and LED tube-lights brings attention and luminosity to the serving area. A running timber surface with movable elements maximizes the available eating space. A yellow diamond pattern in the ceiling shortens the perception of the narrow space adding vibrancy and dynamism.

— Concept and proposal development

After thorough research of the socio-cultural landscape and a mapping of the spaces of opportunity in Selb, we developed a set of specific urban tools to deal with the different urban conditions of its center area. These tools for urban transformation integrate spatial, functional, economic, social and environmental aspects to achieve the main goal of the proposal: to foster resilience in urban environments.

connecting selb Selb’s populations has been decreasing because of deindustrialization for the past decades. It has now the opportunity to attract young people and employment by creating one of the biggest outlet centers in the region with the financial support of an investor. The municipality organized a competition by invitation to develop the masterplan for the area including 10.000 sqm of new retail space.

Type: Urbanism, competition Year: 2018 Location: Selb, Germany Site: 2 Ha. Client: Municipality of Selb Team: Claudia Sánchez with Irene Climent, Íñigo Cornago, Lara Freire, Antonio García, and Mario Vila.

Responsibilities: — Site research and analysis — Concept and proposal development

claudia sánchez

The aim of our proposal is to create a vibrant and inclusive public space, with an emphasis on housing diversity and spaces for small retailers and workshops. The strategies were to create quality walkable and legible public space with a series of connected plazas that link the city center with the existing commercial area in the west. Also, to consolidate the perimeter of the blocks and densify the area (FAR=1.8). And to relate and create a functional and aesthetical dialogue with the urban and built context.

hubtic bcn Poblenou neighborhood was the first industrial area to be developed in Barcelona in 1847 later known as the "Catalonian Manchester". After a period of decay, in the 2000s the Plan22@ aimed to reinvigorate the area by transforming it into the technological and innovation district. In the meantime, artists had already been making use of its industrial remains and establishing a network of creative workspaces. After the Great Recession of 2008, plans for development receded.

claudia sánchez

In this context, the proposal focuses on delivering a practical case of progressive architectural intervention in the post-industrial landscape with a sustainable approach to urban development. Through a time-based strategy, this project narrates the conversion of an obsolete and disgregated block in Poblenou into a hub for art, technology, and community interaction.
