Greg Daley, Jr., who earned an A.A.S. in dental hygiene, has pursued a career that lets him fulfill his desire to help people while also earning a good living. Daley discovered the opportunities in dental hygiene at an information session at CLC’s Lakeshore Campus. He learned about the close link between oral health and overall health, and the fact that this profession offers one of the top-paying careers for people with an associate degree.

“Everyone at Lakeshore, from the financial aid office to advisors, tutors and instructors, went above and beyond to help me. They genuinely want students to succeed. There was a special vibe at Lakeshore that made you want to take more classes.”
Erik Perez, 2015 honors graduate, earned an A.A. in communications. He is a human services representative for a Lake County provider of janitorial and line-assembly services. The Lakeshore Campus, he said, played a big role in his success. He is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree in human resources management at National Louis University. “Had it not been for the instructors and staff at Lakeshore, I don’t think I’d be where I am now,” said Perez, who grew up in Waukegan and lives in Gurnee. “It’s nice to have a college in your backyard to give you tools to grow.”

SUCCEED at Lakeshore
Tired of working unfulfilling, dead-end jobs, Tamara Hudson decided that it was time to advance her career prospects and complete the CLC associate degree she had started several years earlier. Hudson earned her Associate in Applied Science degree in 2015 after completing three Administrative Office Systems certificates.
“Learning is fun. Learning something new makes me feel like I’m advancing in the right direction. It’S been a great experience.”
Two scholarships from the CLC Foundation helped pay for Hudson’s tuition, books and supplies. As a student, she took advantage of Lakeshore’s advising and library services. Tamara tells her friends how CLC helped her grow and achieve more than she ever thought possible. “The staff and faculty are very encouraging; Lakeshore is like a family.”
Lakeshore’s Bright Future An exciting $47 million project to expand and consolidate the Lakeshore Campus into one large complex will offer even greater educational opportunities. Plans for the 53,090 square feet of new construction and 19,704 square feet of renovations will include new classrooms and space for one-stop enrollment services, life sciences, library, adult education, administration and child care. With an anticipated 2019 completion date, new and existing campus buildings will be centered on a redeveloped pedestrian quad located in the current Madison Street right-of-way. The quad will feature outdoor student seating areas, newly developed green space, a student drop-off circle drive and short-term parking spaces. A new campus gateway will define the entry to the redeveloped public zone from Genesee Street and provide a new, contemporary image of the campus.
A community hub for student life and outreach The Lakeshore Campus provides an opportunity for students to become involved in campus and community life through the Lakeshore Student Association, a student organization that encourages and nurtures student leadership. Area organizations meet in our conference center, and the campus sponsors community-focused events like job fairs, the annual Salute to Gospel Music program, Cinco de Mayo and Taste of Lakeshore Campus. We work closely with local organizations to sponsor community outreach events such as Juneteenth and ArtWauk. Our state-of-the-art Dental Hygiene Clinic offers affordable dental hygiene services for community members and students. A citizen’s advisory group provides feedback on how the campus can better serve the area’s educational needs. Everything is conveniently offered in three buildings on Genesee Street in downtown Waukegan – 1 N. Genesee St., 33 N. Genesee St. and 111 N. Genesee St. Free covered parking is available in our nearby Sheridan Road parking garage.
