2017 ISSUE 2 | THIS IS HOPE | RECOMMENDED CHRISTIAN RESOURCES

FINDING TRUE LIGHT AND LIBERATION “I have a burning desire to tell people who are hurting that there is a way out of their pain. There is hope for their lives.” Stormie Omartian tells her compelling story of a childhood marred by physical and emotional abuse that eventually led her into the occult, drugs, and tragic relationships. Finding herself overwhelmed by fear and on the verge of suicide, she shares the turning point that changed her life and reveals the healing process that brought freedom and wholeness beyond what she ever imagined. In this poignant drama, there is help and hope for anyone who has been scarred by the past or feels imprisoned by deep emotional needs. It is a glorious story of how God can bring life out of death, life out of darkness.

Welcome to Take Note Hope. It’s more than light at the end of a dark tunnel. For Christians we have a certain hope, based on the promises of Jesus. In this issue of Take Note we focus on the hope that is found in Christ. We have included a selection of biographies which feature stories of hope when it hurts, and hope out of darkness (p.2 & 4-5) – including our cover title from best-selling author Stormie Omartian, telling how she was rescued from a life of darkness and brought into the light of love and hope found in Jesus.

We also feature some books that offer hope to families in raising their children and teens, and hope to face some of the big issues in life today (p.8-9). With summer holidays on the horizon, we’ve also included some classic biographies and Christian fiction (p.6-7) from well-known authors such as Adrian Plass, Francine Rivers, Beth Moore, Helen Roseveare and Corrie ten Boom.

Finally, one of the things we often get asked for is a Bible that has large print, but is small enough to take anywhere. A seemingly impossible task? No – help is at hand! We have a small selection across different Bible translations with some great offers (see p.11). Thanks for your support and enjoy browsing...

Found by Love Rahil Patel

Fleeing ISIS, Finding Jesus Charles Morris & Craig Borlase

Kisses from Katie Katie Davis

The true story of a successful Hindu priest whose world was changed by an unexpected encounter with the love of Jesus Christ.

In Iraq ISIS is on the move.

Katie was a normal American teenager when she decided to explore the possibility of voluntary work overseas. She temporarily ‘quit life’ to serve in Uganda for a year before going to college. However, returning to ‘normal’ became impossible and Katie ‘quit life’ college, designer clothes, her little yellow convertible and her boyfriend – for good, remaining in Uganda.

Devoted to the Hindu scriptures and committed to his faith’s rituals and practices, Rahil Patel was a model priest. He was a brilliant academic and a captivating speaker for one of the most affluent Hindu organisations in the world.

So is Jesus. Summer 2014 ISIS rages across Syria & Iraq seeking out & slaughtering Christians by the thousands. Women & children are enslaved & the world looks on in terror. Is this the beginning of the end?

Yet for all his success, Rahil felt a hunger in his heart and a longing for peace. Hoping to find a loving god who could meet these needs, Rahil intensified his meditations and his study of the Hindu scriptures. But nothing seemed to work – until he had an unexpected encounter with the risen Jesus Christ. Finally he found the love he had been looking for. It was the beginning of a surprising journey in which he experienced both painful stripping away and inner healing, leading to a freedom he had never known.

Could the church in the Middle East ever hope to survive?

‘Rahil’s story of transformation is a wonderful testimony to the grace of God working in a person’s life.’

How could God let such horrors happen? In Fleeing ISIS Finding Jesus Charles Morris shares the story of how he travelled to Iraq & Jordan. There among the refugees & rescued women & girls he discovered the truth that doesn’t get reported by the national media. In the shadow of ISIS he found God was miraculously at work.

In the early days she felt as though she were trying to empty the ocean with an eyedropper, but has learnt that she is not called to change the world in itself, but to change the world for one person at a time. By the age of 22 Katie had adopted 14 girls and founded Amazima Ministries which currently has sponsors for over 600 children and a feeding program for Uganda’s poorest citizens - so it is no wonder she feels Jesus wrecked her life, shattered it to pieces, and put it back together making it more beautiful than it was before.
