The signs on the side of the highway as you enter Clemson say “Clemson: In Season Every Season.” From the point of view of most Clemson graduates, the seasons this slogan speaks of are football, basketball, baseball, etc. But a drive through town in the middle of spring, when the azaleas and dogwoods are in full bloom, or a walk through campus in October, when the trees are blazing in the brilliant colors of autumn, will leave little doubt that Clemson is indeed in season, every season. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and caressed by the shores of beautiful Lake Hartwell, Clemson is located in the northwest corner of South Carolina, two hours northeast of Atlanta, GA and two hours southwest of Charlotte, NC. Since its inception in 1991, the Student-Athlete Enrichment Programs have provided student-athletes a continued commitment to excellence. Our approach is to address the total student-athlete, and we are committed to coaching our student-athletes to success in the academic, personal growth, career, and community service arenas. As an original member of the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, we provide opportunities and services to address the changing needs and skills of student-athletes during college and after graduation. This program was selected for the Division I-A Athletic Director’s Association “Program of Excellence” Award, a lifetime award recognizing CHAMP/ Life Skills excellence. The Student-Athlete Enrichment Programs are housed in Vickery Hall, located in the center of campus. The $3-million structure is as impressive aesthetically as other athletic facilities. It recently underwent $300,000 in renovations to further assist our studentathletes in the classroom. But the importance of Vickery Hall to our student-athletes is not found in the structure itself, but in the many programs that the building houses. Vickery Hall opened in the fall of 1991 and was the first facility in the country constructed solely to provide academic support to student-athletes. The two-story, 27,000 square-foot building is open all day and into the evening hours to accommodate the student-athletes’ extended schedules. Our programs are dedicated to provide a holistic, educational experience by inspiring an environment of respect, integrity, and excellence. Through these services, Vickery guides and encourages each individual to reach his or her full potential as a student, athlete, and citizen.

STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING Clemson University has one of the finest weight rooms in the country. In 2004, the weight room was drastically remodeled, receiving a more modern and updated look as well as a more functional layout. Some of the new and updated features of the weight room include a state-of-the-art sound system, eight flat-screen plasma televisions, state-of-the-art ventilation system, new lighting system, 10 new multi-functional Clemson power racks, Mondo rubber flooring throughout entire weight room, new orange upholstery on all equipment, new paint on surrounding walls and columns, carpeting in entrances and offices and a reconstruction of the entryway walls. The nearly 15,000 square foot facility boasts over 12 tons of weight equipment and lines of Nautilus and Hammer Strength machines. The vast amount of equipment allows the weight room to be used by a number of teams simultaneously. The plush atmosphere provides an interesting contrast to the physical exertion that takes place in the facility. The Tiger Strength and Conditioning program is on the cutting edge of athletic sports enhancement. The multiple training methodologies utilized by the Clemson strength staff ensures that each athlete gets the maximum benefit from resistance training, speed development, nutritional consultation, and sports specific conditioning. ATHLETIC TRAINING Clemson student-athletes in all sports now have the luxury of one of the top athletic training facilities in the nation. In the fall of 2000, the facility completed a $750,000 renovation and was renamed the Hoover Training Facility. The spacious facility features the latest in athletic training needs. There are offices for the employees and new taping tables, the latest in rehabilitation facilities, including stationary bikes, elliptical machines and an underwater treadmill, and a large hydro-therapy area. The Hoover Athletic Â Training Facility is state-of-the-art in every aspect. It includes offices for staff and physicians, an orthopedic examination room, a conference room, and library. Best of all, the facility has plenty of space for all athletic training needs.

Clemson University athletics is dedicated to creating and maintaining a positive image for the university within the surrounding communities through a commitment to service. By enabling student-athletes to identify and share their time, talents, and abilities, Clemson’s student-athletes demonstrate a commitment to the community, and also grow as engaged citizens. Headed by Linda White, the Community Relations among studentathletes has reached new highs. In the 2009-10 academic year, Clemson’s student-athletes completed a total of 5,180 hours of service, or an average of almost 11.5 hours per athlete. That’s the equivalent of 3,453 soccer matches, 7,770 basketball games, and more than 5,000 volleyball matches! Clemson’s commitment to service reaches across several initiatives for players and coaches, including Shop With A Coach, Relay for Life, Be A T.I.G.E.R. Field Day, trips to various shelters and elementary schools, as well as hundreds of other initiatives from churches to the Special Olympics. Perhaps the most unique part of Clemson’s efforts is the Be a T.I.G.E.R. program. Clemson continues to be the only Division-I athletics program that uses a comprehensive character education initiative in its outreach activities. As a member of an athletic program at Clemson, student-athletes and coaches can expect to have countless opportunities to enrich the lives of the surrounding community, a crucial part of student-athlete development.

After losing a trio of All-ACC performers due to graduation, the 2010 Clemson Volleyball team will feature plenty of youth as they trek toward a school-record fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. With only one senior and two juniors on the roster, the Tigers can put themselves in great position to be a major player on the national scene for years to come. Departed seniors Kelsey Murphy, Lia Proctor, and Didem Ege each were crucial elements of the Tigers’ success in each of the past three seasons. They were only the second class in school history to reach the NCAA Tournament three times, and they all played significant roles on Clemson’s 2007 ACC Championship team, which went 21-1 in league play. “We lost our quarterback (setter Murphy), our top offensive player (Proctor, 472 kills), and our top defensive player (Ege, 607 digs),” says head coach Jolene Jordaon Hoover, who enters her 17th season at the helm. “It’s going to be interesting because those three were mainstays for four solid years. Once they’re gone is when you realize how much they did for the team. We’re going to be pretty young, so we are going to need some people contribute more because of it.” Murphy developed into the conference’s most well-rounded setter, leading the Tigers to a top three hitting percentage in each of her last three seasons. Additionally, she became the only player in league history to record 5,000 assists, 1,000 digs, and 400 blocks in a career. Ege leaves as the ACC’s all-time leader in career digs (2,303) and digs per set (4.88). She was the 2009 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and an All-ACC selection each of the past three seasons. She played in every match for her entire four-year career, and had a reputation for quietly putting up big numbers. Proctor also appeared in every set in her college career, and her athletic play from the outside had her regarded as one of the most feared hitters in the league. She was twice named to the All-ACC team, and finished her career with more than 1,400 kills. Despite the loss of the three star players, the Tigers have a stable of younger players who are ready to make their mark in the orange and white. Hoover used a steady rotation of five freshman a season ago, and actually returns four of the top five finishers in kills on the team a season ago. The name of the game for the Tigers in 2010 is youthful athleticism, as Clemson has

several outstanding top-class athletes in the freshman and sophomore classes. “Youth can be very fun, but can also be very stressful at times,” explained Hoover. “I don’t think they understand the pressure they’ll feel in certain situations. The good part is we have a lot of talent and physicality. When you look at us athletically, you can get very excited. But, it’s going to be about tempo and consistency.” Roster Overview Cansu Ozdemir begins her fourth season for the Tigers, and is the only senior on the team. The Istanbul, Turkey native played in all 33 matches a season ago, starting 23 of them, and developed into one of the most consistent players on the floor for Hoover’s team. She will be relied upon for floor leadership throughout the season. “Cansu has been a fantastic leader and glue type player,” says Hoover. She gives so much out on the floor and I think that was evident last season. It seemed the team would just click and communicate when she was on the floor. Cansu has made it very difficult to keep her off the court, and I think she’s excited to be the lone senior. We need her to keep giving.” Junior Brittany Fennell was a significant contributor as a freshman in 2008, but fell out of the rotation after an injury in 2009, playing in only xx matches. She matched her production in the time she did play, and will be considered a more-than-capable backup in the middle, and she could see time as a starter as well. The anchor of the team will be the six-member sophomore class, which features 2009 All-ACC selection Sandra Adeleye and ACC All-freshman team member Alexa Rand in the middle. Along with Natalie Patzin, the Tigers actually return three of their top four contributors in kills from 2008. Additionally, Serenat Yaz appeared in more than 110 sets and saw significant action on the outside toward the end of the season. Lacy Hayes, a redshirt sophomore will compete for the setting job. The 6-2 Texas native spent her freshman season on the outside so Hoover could get her on the floor, but she was unable to play ahead of Murphy. This season, she will have ample opportunity to quarterback the offense. For the second straight season, the freshman class will be relied upon to contribute significantly immediately. Five freshmen pepper the roster, headlined by Moneshia Simmons, who is ranked as the #67 player in the class by PrepVolleyball.com. Playing primarily in the middle in high school, Simmons may be called upon to move outside due to her elite athleticism that earned her All-Region honors in volleyball and basketball in Georgia. Hannah Brenner, a setter from Ohio, will immediately challenge for playing time to help fill the void left by Murphy, a four-year starter herself. Cami Rosado of Puerto Rico has a long list of accomplishment from the beach and AAU courts that will make her a prime contender for the libero spot this season. By Position Middles Clemson will field arguably the best stable of middles in the conference in 2010. Sophomore Sandra Adeleye and Alexa Rand, both member of the ACC all-Freshman team, are a two-headed monster. Adeleye proved herself to be one of the top offensive players in the conference, using her explosive athleticism to the tune of a 3.09 kills/set average while hitting .386, which ranked third in the conference. “Sandra is so fun to watch anyway, and if she can keep improving, that will help our team and be help in her leadership. It will be fun to watch her.” Rand, one of two players ahead of Adeleye, hit .391, a record for a Clemson freshman, while playing in 123 sets, and averaging 1.95 kills/set. The two were ranked in the top-15 nationally in hitting percentage offensively, and give the Tigers two solid options. “Individually, with the return of our two middles who put those numbers, we’d love to see them improve, said Hoover. “That will be tough, with a new setter, so we are going to have to get them to understand that they may need to be more communicative with the setter. There will be a learning curve in there.” Brittany Fennell could be a factor here as well, as the junior hopes for a full season of good health. She did appear in 27 sets in 2009, hitting .348 and averaging 1.07 blocks per set. Defensively, Clemson’s middles are among the most athletic, and divert an extraordinary amount of attacks. Those three players accounted for 297 total blocks in 2009, with Rand finishing second in the conference and setting a freshman record with 1.28 per set, and Adeleye getting her hands on 1.16 per set. In fact, as a team the Tigers ranked number-one in the conference and

2010 Season Outlook 14th nationally in blocking at 2.74 per set, while also hitting into the fewest block of anyone in the league. Right Side/ Outside Hitters Ozdemir played 115 sets last season and had 133 kills from the right side, while also recording 201 digs and 56 total blocks. She will be looked upon to anchor and stabilize the team. Ozdemir is a consistent player, who is not shy around the net. Another option for the Tigers will be fellow Istanbul, Turkey native and sophomore Serenat Yaz, who saw a lot of significant time toward the end of the season. Yaz hits well, and is a smart player with adequate defensive abilities. Brooke Kohler, a redshirt sophomore, will also compete for playing time, but has limited experience due to shoulder surgery as a freshman. Hayes could also get a look here, depending on how she plays as a setter. Freshman Mo Simmons will likely be looked upon to fill the void left by Proctor as an outside hitter. Although she played primarily in the middle in high school, Simmons is an elite athlete, and one who can use her instincts to impact the game immediately. “Mo is just an unbelievable gifted athlete,” raves Hoover. “She is just an impressive athlete. Lia Proctor, during camp, said that her mouth dropped when she saw Mo play; and coming form Lia, that’s a huge complement.” Not to be lost in the shuffle is Natalie Patzin, a 5-10 ball of energy from Illinois. Last season, Patzin played in 117 sets and was third on the team with 287 kills, averaging 2.45 per set. The hard-hitting high-flyer is a great option on the outside, who is a solid defensive player. She earned the start in all 33 matches a season ago, and is a smart player. Additionally, Patzin was named to the Academic All-ACC team as a freshman. Between Patzin, Yaz, Ozdemir, Kohler, Simmons, and possibly Hayes, the Tigers have very strong and physical options at the position that should help curtail the loss of Proctor. Setter Kelsey Murphy was a four-year starter who knew the offense inside and out, and could make plays that many other could not. She was an excellent defender, and was an excellent competitor. This season, the Tigers will break in a new setter, who will have to have a quick learning curve. One option at setter is Hayes, who spent last season redshirting after playing outside as a freshman. Hayes spent the spring as the team’s setter, and actually came in as a setter but was moved to get her on the court. She is a good athlete, and stands in at 6-1, giving the Tigers another tall option at that spot, which helped Murphy reach more than 400 career blocks. “Lacy is much more physical than Kelsey was, but we need her to give us consistency.” The other candidate for the position will be freshman Hannah Brenner, a 5-11 Ohio native. Brenner is a left-handed setter who is very energetic on the court and has very good hands. “Hannah is very giving with energy and very exciting. She is very different than Lacy and gives us a while different attitude, and she will compete with Lacy for that position.” Of course, Hoover is not afraid of competition, as it enables her to mix and match lineups, as well as intensifies practices and breeds a competitive spirit. The tea’s success will rely heavily on the setter position, as Murphy made a lot of difficult things look easy. Either Hayes or Brenner will be charged with distributing the ball to several strong options offensively. Defensive Specialists Tanya Mirutenko is the only player on the roster who has appeared in a match in the defensive specialist position. Ege held such a stranglehold on the position for four years, setting ACC records in both major digs categories. This season the duties could be shared unless one of the student-athletes grabs the job. Camila Rosado, a freshman from Puerto Rico, could be the starter at the beginning of the season. She comes to Clemson with a strong background in beach volleyball, and had a lot of success at the AAU level. She comes form an athletic family, and hopes that she will be able to anchor the Tiger defense as the Libero. “Cami has a nice jump serve and reads the ball very well,” explained Hoover. “Of course, she will have some competition with Tanya and Morgann, who also had a good spring. Hopefully we’ll have some options there and feel like we can get some ball handling from a number of people so they can help some others in the back row.”

Sophomore ALEXA RAND set the freshman blocking record, and ranked second in the ACC in 2010. Mirutenko and Morgann Mitchell, who returns as a walk-on, split duties in the spring. Mitchell is an athletic player, and is the tallest of the three at 5-11. Mirutenko saw action in 15 sets a season ago, and served in some big situations, which could allow her to help the team in other ways. Overall Roundup The 2010 season for the Volleyball team will be a crucial one for the team going forward. With a starting lineup that could feature as many as six freshmen and sophomores, results will be difficult to predict. “I think sometimes when you go in with fewer question marks, you subject yourself to additional pressure,” explained Hoover. “Roles are set, you are supposed to do this. Coming in with a few more question marks, I think alleviates some pressure, because the outer expectations are a little more forgiving. I think hopefully, we’ll allow these freshmen to grow. I think that will make it more competitive. I get excited, but we’re going to have to understand that we’ll have a roller coaster at times and its going to be how we react to some of the performances we aren’t happy with. That’s going to be our question is who we answer things that aren’t going how we want them to go, and that’s what we have to do as a coaching staff is to get these guys ready.” In no way has the youth affected the coach’s outlook on the season, as the bar has been set and the returning players have high expectations. In fact, no returning player has played in a season where the Tigers did not reach the postseason. “As a team, we’d love to get into postseason again,” said Hoover. “That’s what this group knows. Postseason is the minimum, and that’s the bar we’ve set. You have to finish in the top half of the ACC to get that done. The Conference Championship is always a goal, but a lot will depend on how consistent we can be with our youth.”

In her 17 seasons as head volleyball coach at Clemson, Jolene Jordan Hoover has raised the bar of expectations, performance, and accomplishment within the program. She led Clemson to a 27-8 record in her first season, and has maintained a remarkable track record of consistency since. Hoover is now the longest-tenured head coach of any women’s program at Clemson, and continues to approach the sport with the same energy and enthusiasm that made her a Hall of Fame player at Illinois State. Before her arrival, Clemson had never been to the NCAA Tournament and had won just 41 percent of its ACC matches. In her 17 years at the helm, Clemson has now been to the NCAA Tournament eight times, including four years in which it provided a host role for the national event, in 1994, 1999, 2007 and 2008. Clemson has won nearly 60 percent of its ACC matches in her tenure, and she has led the team to three conference titles. Hoover is already Clemson’s all-time winningest volleyball coach with a 360-195 career record. She has won at least 22 matches nine times during her tenure, including each of the past four seasons. Hoover’s teams have a 176-116 (.603) record in ACC play, including a school record and ACC-best 21-1 mark in 2007. She has posted a 453-226 overall record in her 20 seasons as a head coach, ranking in the top 40 among active NCAA head coaches. With a 3-0 victory over N.C. State in the first match of the 2004 season, Hoover reached the 100-win plateau in ACC matches and is one of only three current league coaches who can make the claim. She reached two additional milestones during the 2007 season, recording her 300th win at Clemson and her 400th career coaching victory. The 2009 season helped to solidify Hoover, as she led the team to a 23-10 overall record and a third consecutive NCAA berth and a fourth-place finish in the ACC. Hoover has coached great individual student-athletes to success during her time at Clemson. She has coached 19 different players to 37 All-Region selections, as well as 36 All-ACC selections. Her 2007 squad set records for All-ACC performers with six on the first and second teams and AVCA All-Region selections with four. The 2009 team also had four All-ACC performers and tied the 2007 team’s mark with four All-Region selections. The lengthy list of Tiger stars also includes Cindy Stern, who became the ACC’s first volleyball All-American in 1999, and Danielle Hepburn, just the second player in school history to be named to an All-American team. Hoover coached Hepburn to a third-team selection in 2008, capping an impressive career for the middle hitter. Hepburn was the ACC’s 2008 Player-of-the-Year after leading the league in kills and blocks. She ranked second nationally in blocks per set with a 1.50 average and became Clemson’s three-time First Team All-ACC selection since Stern. Stern also earned ACC Player-of-the-Year honors in 1999 under Hoover’s guidance, and Hoover added Leslie Finn to the list of all-conference greats in 2003, after she garnered first-team All-ACC status. Hoover coached Finn to one of the most spectacular individual seasons in school history in 2004. The outside hitter was a first-team All-ACC and AVCA All-Region selection. Under Hoover’s tutelage, Finn set a single-season and career kills record for Clemson. Hoover then coached Danielle Hepburn to one of the finest careers in school history from 2005-08. Hepburn left the program with the career record for and three of the top five single-season hitting percentages. She also holds school records for block assists and total blocks over a career and ranks in the top 10 for kills. Hepburn’s hitting percentage ranked among the top 15 nationally in 2007 (.395) and 2008 (.391) and she had a pair of top-five marks for blocks per set over her career. Hoover is also no stranger to the development of young talent. Five times she has coached the ACC Rookie of the Year, with Jeannette Abbott earning the award most recently in 2005. Sandra Adeleye was the most recent Tiger to benefit form her tutelage, earning

Clemson played four freshman more than 100 sets, giving them valuable winning experiences as well as a taste of the NCAA tournament. The file also includes 1998 selection Jodi Steffes and 1999 selection Jessi Betcher. Steffes completed her career in 2001 as Clemson’s first fourtime AVCA All-District honoree and was inducted into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame in the fall of 2009. Betcher finished her Tiger career in 2002 as Clemson all-time leader in assists with 1,551. Hoover has coached 14 different players to the All-ACC freshman team, including at least one in eight of the last 10 seasons. She placed two rookies on the squad in 2006 in Kelsey Murphy and Didem Ege, marking just the second time in program history that the conference All-Freshman team included two Tigers. Both were during Hoover’s reign. The development of Ege and Murphy combined with veterans at the five remaining positions to secure the 2007 squad’s place in Clemson history. Hoover led the team to an ACC Championship, a trip to the NCAA Tournament and the #22 final ranking with a 29-4 overall record and a program-best 21-1 mark in the conference. She was named the 2007 ACC Coach-of-the-Year, her second such honor, while coaching an unprecedented four AVCA Honorable Mention All-America selections. The team established new standards for overall and conference winning streaks during the season at 14 and 17, respectively; and the .879 winning percentage for the year was the highest figure achieved by a Clemson women’s sports program in this century. Ege went on to win ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2009, as

well as an All-ACC selection after setting the ACC record for career digs, as she ended her career among the top 15 in NCAA history. Murphy closed out her career as a three-time All-ACC talents, and is the only player in league history to record 5000 assists, 1000 digs, and 400 blocks. With its team and individual success, the 2007 team etched its mark alongside that of the 1999 squad, whose season set the bar for Hoover and the program. That year, the Tigers posted a 31-3 overall record and finished the season ranked 22nd nationally. That .910 winning percentage was not only a Clemson volleyball record, but the top winning percentage for any Clemson sport in the decade of the 1990s. The season included an ACC regular season championship, a 27-game winning streak over the first nine matches of the season, a record four wins over Top 25 teams, and a record 16-match winning streak. The most impressive statistic might have been a perfect 12-0 record on the opponent’s home floor. Hoover led the Tigers to a #9 final RPI ranking that season as well. The 1999 season was Clemson’s fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in a seven-year period. Her 1993 and 1994 teams finished their seasons in the NCAAs, just the fourth time in Clemson athletic history a coach had taken a team to the NCAAs in the first two years with the program. Her first two teams were a combined 55-15 overall, 20-8 in ACC play. The 1997 and 1998 teams also reached NCAA Tournament play. The 1997 squad won the program’s first ever ACC Championship. Michelle Thieke was named tourney MVP. Clemson finished that year with a 26-8 ledger. The 1998 team reached the second round of the NCAAs before losing to second-ranked Penn State on its home court. It has a school record six wins in five-game matches. Hoover coached her 2008 squad to a second-straight NCAA appearance and another first-round victory, marking the first time ever that the Tigers reached the second round in back-to-back seasons. Clemson posted a 2310 overall record with a 14-6 ledger in conference play. In addition to Hepburn’s top league honor, Murphy was named to the First Team and Lia Proctor earned the first ACC accolade of her career with a second-team selection. With Hoover’s coaching, Proctor has made great strides in her game since her freshman season. She posted nearly 100 more kills each year, compared the one prior, while bettering her hitting percentage each season as well. In 2008, Proctor was given a full-rotation role for the first time and used it to record 329 digs (second-most on the team) and 26 service aces. Her improved play was a contributing factor in the team’s successes, providing a balance to Hepburn in the middle. Hoover led the Tigers to a 20-14 record during the 2004 season, the most wins at Clemson since the 1999 season. Among the 20 wins was one of Hoover’s greatest upsets. After handling Virginia Tech to open the ACC Tournament, the Tigers were faced with a matchup versus #1 seed Georgia Tech, who went undefeated in the regular season. The Tigers prevailed 3-1 in one of Clemson’s best performances in recent memory. With four underclassmen starters, along with the team’s libero, the 2006 Clemson squad’s resume was even then more remarkable. Hoover guided the Tigers to another 20-win season and a third-place finish in the ACC. Clemson has reaped the benefits of a veteran leader on the court, but the 45-year-old Hoover began her list of accomplishments long before taking over as head coach of the Tiger program. Hoover graduated from Illinois State University in 1986, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. While attending Illinois State, Hoover was named all-league in the Gateway Conference in 1983 and 1985, and also the league’s Most Valuable Player in 1985. She was also named Most Valuable Player in two regular season tournaments, chosen as the team’s co-captain in 1985, and was an AAU Junior Olympic AllAmerican in 1982 and 1983. In October of 1999, Hoover was inducted into the Illinois State University Hall of Fame, and was inducted into the BradleyBourbonnais Community High School Hall of Fame in February of 2000. She was honored again in the fall of 2006 as she was named to the Missouri Valley Conference’s (formerly the Gateway Conference) volleyball All-Centennial team. During her Illinois State career, Hoover led the Redbirds to four Gateway Conference Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances. Upon graduating from Illinois State, Hoover participated in the 1987 inaugural season of the professional Major League Volleyball as a setter for the Chicago Breeze. In the summer of 1985, she represented the USA in the World University Games held in Kobe, Japan; and also trained with the United States Women’s National Volleyball Team in San Diego, CA. Hoover’s first coaching stint came in 1986 when she served as an assistant at her alma mater, Illinois State. In 1987, she was named assistant coach at the University of Tennessee. While at Tennessee, the Volunteers finished second in the Southeastern Conference in 1988, after a third-place ranking in 1987. In 1989, Hoover left Tennessee to return to her alma mater as an assistant coach. During that season, Illinois State finished as the Gateway Conference Champions, posted a 21-10 record (9-0 in conference), and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Hoover’s first head coaching position came in 1990 when she took over the Western Maryland College Terrors. During her three-year tenure at Western Maryland she compiled a 93-31 overall record. When combined with her 16-year mark at Clemson, Hoover has an impressive 430-216 (.665) career record. Since her arrival at Clemson, Hoover has not only been coaching the Tigers, but has also worked outside the collegiate coaching area. She has served as the head coach of the USA’s Youth National Team in 1996, an assistant with the 1995 Olympic Festival Team, and as the assistant coach for the Youth National Team in 1994. Hoover, who earned a master’s degree from Clemson in 1997, and her husband Dave Hoover, have two children, Hayley (17) and Carley (14).

Clemson Volleyball head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover announced the hiring of Derek Schmitt to the staff as an assistant coach in early 2010. Schmitt, a 1995 graduate of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA, comes to Clemson after serving as the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach and Assistant Director of Athletics at Southern Wesleyan University since 2005. “I am very excited to announce that Derek Schmitt will be joining our staff at Clemson,” said Hoover. “He has handled many different areas during his time at Southern Wesleyan, in addition to coaching their volleyball team, which made him an extremely attractive candidate for this position.” Schmitt had extensive responsibilities at Southern Wesleyan, including the coordination of all travel, maintaining academic progress, overseeing the travel budgets of 10 teams, performing sports information duties, in addition to his duties as a head volleyball coach. He has also worked with Club South Volleyball in Spartanburg, SC, since 2008, a program which turned out Clemson players two-time All-ACC selection Lia Proctor and Lisa Jedlicka. “I am extremely excited to be joining the Clemson Volleyball program and the entire Clemson Athletics family.
