NOE

Luke 17:26-27: “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.” Noe here in the New Testament is the Greek spelling for the name Noah. Verses 28-29 makes another comparison. It states: “Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.” Now two verses have something in common. Verse 27 says: “...and destroyed them all.” And verse 29 says: “...and destroyed them all.” Now the problem in the days of Lot was homosexuality and God destroyed all 5 cities of the plain. The problem in the day of Noah was the total collapse of all morality. So Jesus Christ Himself is predicting that when He comes back for His church the society of the day will be in total moral collapse and with flagrant homosexuality running rampent. Look around, we are not far from that now. Go back with me to the book of Genesis and we can find just what the immorality consisted of in that day. Genesis 6:1-2: “And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.” For sake of space skip down to verses 5-6: “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.” This immorality was so great that is grieved the heart of God! Every imagination involved man’s thoughts which were corrupt, his heart which was corrupt, his desire which was corrupt, and in fact, his whole moral being was corrupt! It was this kind of wickedness that had spread throughout the entire society.

As I look around today I think we are not too far off from that kind of moral decline. I can look back over the years and remember a time when it was not anywhere near what it is now. This decline in morals seem to have begun right after verse 1 when the sons of God married the daughters of men. In other words the sons of the line of Seth (the Sethites) were marrying the daughters of the line of Cain (the Cainites). If you will remember, the first two sons of Adam and Ever were Cain and Abel. Cain killed Abel and the Bible says that Cain went east out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod. There he took a wife; he married his sister. It was common practice; it was a pure bloodline and there wasn’t anyone else to marry except family. The Bible tells us that after Adam was 130 years old he had another son and he called him Seth. In Chapter 5:4 it says: “And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters”. Now verse 26 of chapter 4 tells us that: “And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.” So the sons of God in verse w of chapter 6 were the godly family line of Seth who began to marry the wicked family line of Cain. Thus started the moral decline and it did not stop until God finally said in verse 7 of chapter 6: “...I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.” However verse 8 states: “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” Well, once again I must continue this next week and then we will have the rest of the story.

A Department of Justice study estimated in 2009 that about one in nine adults age 60 and older suffers abuse each year. For every one case reported to authorities, it is believed that five more go unreported. A study reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association, also in 2009, found victims of elder abuse have a 300 percent higher risk of death than individuals not subject to abuse. Abuse can take many forms including physical, verbal, neglect, and financial exploitation. June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7), which covers 10 counties in Ohio, including Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton, encourages the community to be aware and educated about elder abuse. If you or someone you know is the victim of abuse, it is important to report it to the appropriate authorities. According to the National Center on Elder Abuse, elder abuse is a term referring to any knowing, intentional, or negligent act by a caregiver or any other person that causes harm or a serious risk of harm to a vulnerable adult. The specificity of laws varies from state to state, but broadly defined, abuse may be: • Physical Abuse - Inflicting, or threatening to inflict, physical pain or injury on a vulnerable elder, or depriving them of a basic
